New from Western Pennsylvania
I'm a newby a few miles north of Pittsburgh. Got into this with when I saw a 1968 F-100 LB Ranger sitting at a used tractor lot all by itself. It's Canadian-built painted that light green. The previous owner had put stick-on orange flames. Well bought it an I've never looked back.
Before jumping into anything too fast I spent a few years deciding what to do with it. I found something strange about the oil pan every time I tried to change engine oil. I figured that someone had put a car set-up and FMX into my baby.
I got the fever and found a built-up 410 .03 over, stage two crowler cam, with a rebuilt C-6 never run. It had been sitting in a garage for a few years. Well, after reading alot, decided I should get a machine shop to go over it. Sure enough it needed re-balanced. Added a PI medium riser and Hedmans. Finally pulled the old 390 last week. Hope to paint the engine compartment soon and get my baby running yet this summer.
I'd be interested in meeting up with any FE powered F-series owners in the area or just swapping info. Looking to hearing from you guys and to hear any good ideas.

Re: New from Western Pennsylvania
Hey there, f100ranger! Welcome to the forums! That sounds like a pretty cool project you've got going on there. Would love to see some pictures. I love seeing the 'in-progress' shots.
EDIT: Man, Nebraska is sure on the ball tonight! Mark and I posted our salutes at the exact same time.

Re: New from Western Pennsylvania
Truth be known, I'm way over my head. I haven't dug into an engine, or a vehicle for that matter, since the 70's. I'm toying with the idea of putting on front discs from a 79 while I have the engine out. Help, make me stop.

Re: New from Western Pennsylvania
Help you STOP? No way...we're just gonna egg ya on! Go for it! If you've got it apart right now, I can't think of a better time to go ahead and do the upgrades. I mean, why install parts now that you'll probably want to replace a short time later with something better? Of course, budget concerns always come into play, but there's a heck of a lot you can do for little money to really enhance day-to-day driveability, like power disc brakes, power steering (if you don't already have it), etc.
What is your target? I mean, do you have an idea of what the finished product is going to be and look like? Will it be a daily driver or more of a toy, mostly for summertime use? Will it haul cargo? (I don't have to ask if it's gonna haul a**...with a 410 in there, I already know it WILL!)

Re: New from Western Pennsylvania
Keith
I bought it as a daily hauler, well - week-end hauler. But it's in such good shape I never hauled anything in it. Th only thing it needs to be 100% is a new bed floor.
I decided it's going to be a nice second vehicle, but not a show vehicle (for now). I like going to town with the dog, and sometimes the wife. I got a line on a frame and cab with the discs for $75. But I live in suburbia...got to watch the "junk".

Re: New from Western Pennsylvania
Thanks everyone. I bought a 79 frame and cab today. I hear there's a technical article how to swap brakes onto a 68. Can anyone steer me in the right direction, can't seem to find it.
thanks everyone
