Passport please!
PASSPORT
An elder American absent-mindedly arrived at French customs at Paris airport and fumbled for his passport.
"You have been to France before Monsieur?", the customs officer asked sarcastically.
The ancient Yank admitted that he had been to France before.
"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready for inspection", snapped the irate official.
The American said that the last time he came to France he did not have to show his passport.
"Impossible, old man. You Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France."
The old American gave the Frenchman a long hard look. "I assure you, young man, that when I came ashore on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D Day in 1944, there was no darn Frenchman on the beach asking to see my passport!"

Re: Passport please!
Russell, this is not a joke but with all the D-Day shows on tv the last week it occured to me that those Frenchys should be kissing our butts for a good long time.

Re: Passport please!
I don't think I ever really paid that close attention in History class the day they covered D-day, so I never really ever knew the significance until all the coverage on the History Channel and the Learning Channel last weekend. I watched them all, and now have an entirely new-found respect for the those who took part in that landing and just what it entailed. And yes, I agree....the French should be indebted for LIFE for the costs we paid to liberate them from Nazi-ism.
Kinda puts things into perspective when you realize that France was one of the most outspoken opponents of the U.S.-led war on terrorism in general, and Saddam Hussein specifically. You'd think they would have remembered what it was like and been a bit more supportive of our efforts to stamp out tyranny and dictatorship.

Re: Passport please!
I liked this one.
The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some a musement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways
747, call sign Speedbird 206. Speedbird 206: " Frankfurt , Speedbird 206 clear of active runway." Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven." The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop. Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?" Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now." Ground (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?" Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, -- and I didn't land."

Re: Passport please!
Don't want to leave anyone out...
A Pan Am 727 flight waiting for start clearance in Munich overheard the following: Lufthansa (in German): "Ground, what is our start clearance time?" Ground (in English): "If you want an answer you must speak in English." Lufthansa (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany . Why must I speak English?" Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): "Because you lost the bloody war."
