The truck C6 trannies had a bolt-on yoke with no slip features, whereas the car tranny would have a slip yoke. When the previous owner put the car tranny in that truck, he should have used the correct parts, but it sounds like he just took the easy way out, which might not be the best way to go.

The '74 F-150 longbed that I recently pulled the 390/C6 combo out of for my project had a factory slip yoke transmission, but it still also had the two-piece driveshaft. The short front piece went from the back of the transmission back to the carrier bearing and the rear driveshaft piece still had the slip yoke in it as well which went from the carrier bearing to the rearend. The front shaft just wouldn't have been able to utilize it's yoke for slipping...it would all be done at the rear shaft.

Personally, I would think that you wouldn't want the extra weight of the bigger/longer driveshaft to weigh down on the bottom of the transmission tailshaft and seal. I don't know how much extra that fabbed shaft would weigh when comparing it to a one-piece from a different vehicle of about the same length. I'm also questioning the pinion angles...in order to prevent the U-joint from binding and creating a vibration, the angle has to be kept to a certain limit, which was taken into account when the drivetrain was installed at the factory.

To be honest with you, I'm thinking I might be more comfortable replacing that one-piece shaft with a regular two-piece and carrier bearing. You could use the front shaft from a mid-'70s truck so that it's front yoke would match your transmission, and the rear shaft from a '67-'72 longbed. Considering you could probably pick these up very reasonably at the local Pick-n-Pull, I'd give it some thought. Or if you need a set, I've got a spare that I won't be needing for my shortbed. (And I'm not suggesting this to you to make a buck...just as an option. You should be able to also find those locally.)

 I knew a guy who tried to go with a one piece drive shaft in a longbed 69 chevy. The driveline shop tried to talk him out of it and I think they said it was the longes driveshaft they had made. It didn't work.

The deep front sump pan want work but as you know the rear sump will work or you could just have used the FT Big Oil Pan something like 9qt itself from the Factory..
