Hey, thanks for that info, FE427TP...and welcome to the forums! Did you use a car or truck bellhousing? How was the clutch linkage hooked up? So you're saying I couldn't use a bench seat with that setup?

I'm still using a truck bellhousing, but from what I keep reading it's not supposed to work so I'll switch to a car bellhousing when I put the 410 Merc in. A bench seat would probably work with a TKO if you moved the shifter location up on the tranny, but I kept the rear ****er location and used a mustang shifter handle and it was just right for me. As far as the toploader I used a V-Gate and it didn't work with the bench, this was also with the shorter fairlane toploader but a stock shifter might have cleared I didn't try it and you could also bend the shifter arm some to make it work for you the lutch linkage was stock

Hey FE427TP it's about time you found us! Just kidding, welcome to Keith's site!

The 390GT toploader snout must have engaged into the pilot bearing but by how much?

There's a little talk about it going on now at Mr. F's:

That info on the difference in bellhousing depth seems controversial. Some guys claim you can't mix and match and others say they have been doing it forever. The toploader comes in different lengths and with the shifter bosses in different positions for different applications. It also came with different sized input shafts and I think outputs too. I had found a website once that oulined all these diferences. And since Ford used a version of the toploader in pickups I don't think the weight issue is a concern.
I would almost guarantee it takes a lot less torque to break loose the rear tires on your F-100 than it does on any Galaxy.
