4-speed auto?
So, is there one that fits the FE? My automotive training was back in '85, I've forgotten most of that stuff. Is it the AOD? I understand Ford never really got it right. Say what you like, but I can't help envying the easy availability of the 700R4, which GM managed to get right after spending lots of dough.

Re: 4-speed auto?
I used trans and adapter from Lentech late 2002- more are available now. The transmission center seems to be even better deal. Not sure what caused this (I have on occasion put my right foot down pretty heavily, but only if I was alone or with someone) - but I just found out yesterday that the leak(s) I've been trying to get fixed-thinking it was pan (replaced stamped steel with deeper cast aluminum in process) is actually front seal and real pilot shaft seal/gasket, and also slight intermittent vibration is a stripped flexplate nut, so looks like trans will have to be pulled to find out whats going on. At that time I'll get a good idea of how the Lentech Prepped tranny is holding up after just under 6000 miles. But even if have to do major work- I think I'll keep an AOD- it is just too *****in' to cruise all day at 70 miles per hour and 2200 rpm.

Re: 4-speed auto?
That was my main question--I didn't think they ever made the AOD to fit the FE, it was dead and buried by that time. You mentioned a few sources for the the trans/adapter. Do the ones you mentioned have sites?

Re: 4-speed auto?
DuckRyder has the one for Transmission Center in his post, heres the one for Lentech,
and here's another - good luck,
http://www.fbperformance.com/transmissions/4stbt.htm
you will want to use a Lokar floor shifter, and due to larger size of trans shifter sits higher so a console is a good idea.
