Brake Booster & PCV

67 F-100, 352, Power Brakes, 77 front end

The previous owner of my 67 put a 77 front end on it and I think he swapped out the master cylinder and brake booster at the same time. Anyhow, I've always had very hard brakes on this truck so I decided to do something about it this year. I ended up putting in a new master cylinder and brake booster. The brakes were better but only marginally so. Anyhow, the PCV valve and the brake booster share the same vacuum source. i.e. the intake manifold behind the carb. Well, I unhooked the PCV valve hose and plugged it and what do you know, excellent brakes!!! What's the deal here? Do I need to find another vacuum source for the PCV valve. Maybe I'm using the wrong valve? Thanks.

The PCV valve connection should be at the base of the carburetor, the power brake booster connection should be directly off the rear of the intake manifold....they should not be connected to the same port, as you've found out.

I know that's the stock setup (vacuum from carb to PCV) but I have a replacement carb which does not have a vacuum source. Now what?
