Power Steering Rebuild?
Hello, got a question for you guys.
How hard is it to pull the power steering gearbox off and rebuild it? I'm having a leak where the input shaft enters. Would it be better/easier to rebuild it or buy a reman. ps gearbox?
Thanks.

Re: Power Steering Rebuild?
Well, my dad and I pulled the PS gearbox off today. Pretty easy the bolts and everything came of easily. Either because of all the fluid on the bolts, or more probable they weren't loosen down tightly the last time it was taken off(by the hands of my second cousin when he owned it). There's fluid everywhere right around the gearbox. Was going to see if we could replace that input shaft seal, but that's out of the question. Pulled the top part off and it looked at it. Takes a special tool to move the ring in it(and looks like my aformentioned cousin had all ready tried the chisel and hammer) and get to where the seal is. So we put it back together and I have a remanufactured gearbox coming in tomorrow. 149 bucks for it.

Re: Power Steering Rebuild?
A little more expensive that way, but will be a lot less of a headache in the long run.

Re: Power Steering Rebuild?
Yeah, that's what we figured, just as well do it that way since we didn't have the right tools to do it. It's an easy mount, so there's no problem, just got to get it and get it put on. Then I can get insurance back on it and drive it around
