Re: Steering Wheel
I agree with Duckryder The 3 points are safer somtimes but they wont always save your face they dont always catch a lock ...just like when offroading you get those belts that lock and are no retractable wich will hold you back cars flex and bolts break in accidents your best bet is to becarfull not to get in one I think...I say this but still will be puting 3pts in my truck......

Re: Steering Wheel
Man! I'm with Russell's comment. I'll be catching myself looking down at the floorboard trying to site it out and someday maybe crash 'cause I wasn't looking at the road! #*%&!!!

while driving.

Re: Steering Wheel
Pete & Pete was great...my elbow hangs out the window in true American pickup driver tradition no matter what obstacles and hardships come my way (except hailstorms, and tree branches passing real close to my window)
I am glad I read this thread before I posted, because I was about to ask why my steering column is loose. I tightened the two bolts under the dash, didn't help, and was afraid my steering gearbox was shot. Now I've retorqued the bolts holding it to the firewall. No more lateral or vertical movement.

Re: Steering Wheel
I think the column is offset for no scientific reason, that just happens to be where it ended up when everything bolted together. I think the colapsable columns were introduced on the 1980 model F series.
Even in the 70s safety didn't sell and the American automakers didn't implement most safety equipment until required by law and we, as consumers have to be required by law or we still won't use them. I saw a show on this subject last week and some automakers are introducing 4 point harnesses.
If there had never been big brother poking his nose in we could be breathing some toxic grunge like they do in Mexico City and being skewered by steering columns.
