Brake interchangeability
Looks like I have located a Dana 44 for the F100.
Problem is that it has no brakes on it, so I have to either locate backing plates for a Dana or determine if the 9" brake assemblies will work. Any ideas on interchangeability or sources?

Re: Brake interchangeability
Funny you should bring this up, because I was just investigating the same thing yesterday. Well, I was PLANNING to, anyway...I got sidetracked and didn't follow through.
I'm not sure if the axle tube ends on a Dana 60 and a Dana 44 are the same (I think they are), but the backing plate bolt pattern on my Dana 60 is the same as a Ford 9". So now that we know the brake assembly will bolt up to the axle, the only thing we need to be concerned about is the 9" axle offset, to make sure the brake drum will be centered over the brake shoes once it's slid onto the axle. Since the wheel bolt pattern for the rear axles has to match the front, we know the brake drum will fit over the axle, so the only remaining question would be the axle offset. If there's only a slight difference, I would think the backing plate could be shimmed out to center it in the drum.
Here's a chart which should help a bit. The interesting part is that it shows a Dana 60 as having a 5-bolt attachment to the axle tube, and my Dana 60 is identical to the 9" Ford. I'm not sure if mine is is the same as other Dana 60s, since it's a 5-lug, and we know those are kinda rare, and might be a special order specifically for this truck.
