Parting out '74 F100 - might have useful parts

I'm taking the motor, tranny, and a few other various pieces off of it and selling the rest. Thought I'd give you guys first dibs on parts before I start listing them on ebay. I know there are a few things that interchange. Probably not anything anyone will want, but I figured it was worth a try.

Any chance of you posting a pic or two? If it's got disc brakes, I'd definitely save all the front brake hardware. You'd want to save everything that can't be purchased easily at the local parts store (or would be expensive to replace). A partial list would include the following:

- spindles (with the large nut and washer on the end of the spindle)
- dust shields
- proportioning valve and bracket
- brakeline-to-frame brackets

These are worth money to someone who wants to convert to disc brakes but wants to replace the rotor and caliper with new or rebuilt pieces, so they don't need everything.

If you've got a place to store a few pieces while you try to find a good home, I'd save the rearend, any good aluminum trim, steering column, and any interior trim that is in good shape, especially if it's deluxe trim. Other pieces that might be eventually wanted by someone for a '67-'72 truck include the front windshield, inner fenderwells/brackets, hood hinges and radiator support (if rustfree).

It is usually much easier to just drop out the whole I beam that to get the spindle off. Also if the tie rods are good you may want to keep them as that is fairly costly to replace. Don't forget ebay for any decent trim, door panels, dash pad ect. You might get back a little jingle for your project.

I live in Smith Center. Which is located in north central Kansas. I don't have to worry about which pieces to take off, because I have plenty of space to store the truck. I won't be using the radiator either, which is for a 390 with an automatic tranny.

Other pieces that might be eventually wanted by someone for a '67-'72 truck include the front windshield.............

Hummmm, I thought they looked the same...The guy I work with has a 74...His windshield looked the same as mine, but I never actually measured it...I need one...Mine is pretty rough. And being they scrap old stuff so fast around here, they are harder to find used than you might think..Or at least one in good shape..
79 was the last of that series, so I guess anything from a 67 to a 79 would fit...I may have to break down and get a new one...I don't really want to ship one in...The shipping cost would probably outweigh any savings..I saw a glass place the other day that had a sign stating $125 truck windshields...Not too bad for new, and no shipping...MK

Also keep in mind that most glass shops will take no respnsibility for your carry in windshield should it be cracked or damaged during instalation. Unless you paln to do the windshield yourself I would just take it to a glass shop and pay the $160 or so for a new one. $125 would be a real bargain. Also keep in mind that the rubber is 30 plus years old and may not be reusable so it is a good ideae to get a new one if the glass shop doesn't have access or you will be waiting for a new rubber to show up while your truck sets with no windshield in it. The rubber is pricey. The last one I got from Ford over 10 years ago cost $50.

Re: Parting out '74 F100 - might have useful parts

I've always done them myself, so far..But I had always got real good deals on the glass.
The last I did was on my old monte carlo. I got one at a junkyard that was like brand new. In fact, it was probably a junked new one...Got it for $60. I had a big 72 polara wagon that I had to get one due to an errant baseball. Got it for $50. I think it's seal was about the same type as ford. Mine is kinda cracked looking, and it was leaking water. I didn't realize this until my friend with his 74 told me of the same problem on his. I had always thought most of my water seaping down the firewall, etc, was from the vent grille area. But nope, it seems much was seeping in from the top of the windshield seal, right below the drip rail. I sealed the top of that gasket with a bead of silicone, and much of the leaking quit. I never would have thought those would leak like that being it looks basically ok...There is some rust that formed up inside the windshield frame. You can see it press out on the rubber gasket on the inside of the cab. I probably should clean that up before I zap new glass in there. I'm still hoping to see one semi-cheap at some junkyard....:/ Thats why I keep holding off on it..But the cracks are getting old to look at..I'm not sure if I can get window gaskets local or not...The glass co's may have a line on them.  When I last did mine Ford was the only game in town for a rubber and they didn't stock it. There are repro's out there now.
