73-79 rear bumper on a 67-72?
A guy I know tells me he has a non-step rear bumper off of a 74 F100. I haven't seen it, so I don't know about its condition. I seem to remember hearing the frames are wider at the rear. Any ideas if this is a practicle idea?
Assuming it could be made to fit, would it even look right?

Hi, assuming it's the chrome bumper, they're exactly the same. Same deal for the big Broncos. The big difference are the brackets that bolt it to the frame, they're totally different. I a first was gonna stick a Bronco bumper on mine but after a year of finding no brackets gave up on the idea.

Would the brackets from my '70 match up to the '74 bumper, or would the mounting points be different due to changes in the frame?

The holes are a little wider apart on the later bumpers. Not a biggie, I was gonna modify some brackets but ended up getting a step bumper.

I put a bronco bumper on a 72 F-100 with the brackets from a 66 F-250. It all bolted right up.

Thanks willowbilly3, that's why I had a line on a Bronco bumper for so long until I gave up on finding the brackets, where did you find yours?

Re: 73-79 rear bumper on a 67-72?
I lucked out and found them on a derilict truck in a neighbors yard. They are extremely hard to come by. I have a couple pickups spotted with the chrome rear bumper. One not too far from my house that hasn't moved in the 2 1/2 years I have been here. There were a couple sets for sale on FTE classifieds but they want like $90-$100 for them. I also can get my hands on a rusty set off a 74 which could be put on the outside of the frame with some spacers and made to work. You might have to modify the holes but I am not real sure since I haven't actually done it. I could get those to you for $20 plus shipping

So what would you think a pair of '67-'72 styleside chrome rear bumper brackets is worth?

Re: 73-79 rear bumper on a 67-72?
Well since I am about the only one still allowed at FTE, I can check and see if the $100 dollar ones are still there. That would mean they aren't worth that much. But it seems like I heard some one over there say they saw a set on ebay go up towards that price. Of course a very small percentage of the FTE readers even bother reading the classifieds for some reason. I am too cheap to pay that much. I would rather spend 2 days and end up making $5 an hour doing it,lol. I think here amongst friends they should still be worth $50 just because of the rarity. I might also add that the one set on FTE were sandblasted and painted which has to be worth something.

Re: 73-79 rear bumper on a 67-72?
So what I'm getting from all this is that 67-72 bumpers fit a 67-72, 78-79 Bronco bumpers fit with 61-66 F-Series brackets, and 73-79 bumpers will not fit?
I wanted to grab a big old chrome bumper on a 1984 F-series at the Pick N Pull, it has a drop in the center and a towing wire connector. So bumpers from 96-back won't work on our trucks?
