Rear View Mirrors.

Know that I have my choice of wheels on order, I am turning my atttention to something I really don't like on the truck-the outside mirrors. I call them big camper style mirrors. I don't know if they are original equipment but they must go. I was thinking about getting some from DennisCarpenters. I found them as a source about the time I found this forum. I thought it great they have so many Ford parts. Yet no one has mentioned them as a source for items.

1.Sure buying off the shelf is the easy way, but I don't have the places to get thing rechromed that I find in the local yard.
2.Is the stuff from Dennis Carpenter good quality. Can you mention a few other part sources.
Thanks
Mike

Take a look at the Links & Resources page for a good list of vendors. The first four or five on that page are the main suppliers for vintage Ford truck parts. They each have a free catalog which you can request at their website...highly recommended, so you can get an idea of what's available and the general costs involved. Dennis Carpenter has probably the highest quality items from what I've seen and heard, but they're a bit pricier. LMC is a little cheaper, but some of their parts are not quite up to the factory standards, especially in sheetmetal. But then again, I think all the vendors' replacement/patch panels are imported, so they're gonna be a bit thinner than the factory pieces.

Thanks
I had seen people referencing LMC, but I did not know what it was. Ordered a couple of Catelogues. Autokrafters charges for theirs.

Keith, I want you to know I enjoy your forum tremendously. I think of things I would like to do to the truck and I first go to the forum to see what someone else may have done similarly in the past.
Thanks
Mike

Be sure to get NPD's catalog. So far I like them the BEST of the truck suppliers.

Dennis Carpenter is also very good, but many times you get their stuff from other vendors for less than direct.

For sheet metal look for "original tooling" or NOS. Trust me on that.

Re: Rear View Mirrors.

I replaced mine a few months ago. I had a pair of the flat camper/truck tripod mount mirrors. "One stainless, one white"..emoticon
Didn't match, and they acted as wind sails on the highway. I ended up getting a pair of 80's style ford factory mirrors free from a friend that swapped out to a new pair. They look fairly decent, and although they still are semi wind sails, they are not as bad as the old set that are nearly flat in front. The 80's mirrors have a curved stainless front. The mounting bar is a single piece of flat stainless bar that curves around. I notice the guy with the recent low miles 68 ranger pix "red", also has a pair of those type on his. He posted a picture of his truck in the last couple of days, if you want to see what they look like on a 67-72.
Actually, being I hate wind noise, I'd probably prefer the small factory "car" mirrors, but being I have a camper shell and utility bed, they probably would not give as good a vision as the ones I have now. The ones I have now also have the little round "mini-fisheye" mirrors within the main mirror, in the upper far corners. If you decided the 80's ford mirrors are ok, they are probably pretty easy to find at any junkyard. I also see them on e-bay quite a bit.MK

So, you won't like them I guess, if you already have them..."80's style"..I was thinking you had the even flatter tripod mount style...MK

Looking at the pix of your truck, I think I would prefer the stock OEM small "car" looking mirrors...Sure would cut wind noise down a bit...Thats what usually came on them from the factory I think..Your truck is fairly "street" looking, and I don't think you really need the big mirrors for vision...Nice looking truck BTW...MK

Funny stuff. I agree. They are great for visibility but the shear size and noise they make, yuk.

The ones that DCarpenter has are rectangular but small. I am looking for a round mirror.
Maybe something like these??? What you think?
