replacing a window regulator

Finally getting around to putting in the regulator I got off of Keith.

Question: How do I get the glass off the lifting arm and roller? I have on my Door 4 bolts to hold the regulator, 1 nut near the bottom of the door holding the window track, & 1 screw up near the top of the door close to the vent window. I can't find anything else.

Do i basically loosen up the 4 bolts and 1 nut to allow slack to let me finesse the window off the roller?

Once this is done, do I need to remove the glass to get the regulator in, or can I leave the glass resting in the door?

Those four bolts holding the regulator are the only ones you have to remove. Once you have three of them out, grab the top of the window and hold it while you remove the last one, so the window doesn't drop down and break. Once it's loose, just gently lower it down to the bottom of the door and slide the regulator off the track on the glass and remove it. You can just leave the glass sitting at the bottom of the door until you're ready to install the new one. You shouldn't need to remove or loosen the tracks. You can then easily install the new one by simply sliding the regular back onto the glass track, lifting the glass back up and reinstalling the bolts.

What type of grease do I want to use to lube the moving parts with? I know I have some white lithium type, not sure if that's what I should be using.

Cobra, didn't see anything.

Got the old regulator out. Trying to find out what will work to grease the gears.

Here's a link to the pic in case it isn't showing up again...WebShots sure seems to be finicky these days about linking to pictures. The new FORDification Photo Gallery is going to be SO much nicer and more convenient.

I would use the white lithium grease on your window runner.

Re: replacing a window regulator

Thanks for the pics. I had to use Keith's link, the pic wasn't showing when I'd look at Cobra's reply. I have the 70 body/interior assembly manual, and it has a similar drawing. For some reason the regulator's arm for lifting the window is shown with the window half-way up instead of down like your picture. Guess you got to keep those draftsmen busy.

So, what are we saying, lithium grease on the runner and bearing grease on the gear?
