Re: replacing a window regulator
The main difference between general-purpose lithium grease and wheel-bearing grease is the heat each is able to withstand before breaking down. Since wheel bearings obviously have more of a load on them during operation and thus more heat being generated, lithium grease would break down too rapidly. Either will work just fine for your regulator though, but I believe the lithium grease is what was used at the factory.

window crank handles
I live in Charlotte, NC. So I figured I should run up to Dennis Carpenter and buy a new set of window cranks, but they had closed by the time I got there. NPD has a store just down the road, so I went there. Almost 50 bucks with tax for a pair and they dont really look right. I bought them anyway.
Then it dawned on me to try the car parts stores. About 6.70 each. They look exactly like what was originally on it, except the knob is clear instead of black. I'll be taking the NPD stuff back. Actually, the wrapper said these were for mustangs anyway. The cars must have got a little fancier crank. Going just by the catalog, Carpenter's has the right cranks, but they're almost as expensive.
BTW, I used lithium grease on the gears. Thanks for the help guys. The regulator creaks a little, but after a few times up and down it will probably loosen up.
