repeaters
I've got a little project brewing that I thought I'd throw in. I picked up a set of the hood side badge/reflectors at a garage sale for $2 the pair. They're not as good as the ones on the truck, but I needed the RH reflector as it is faded. Using my 'spares' as 'guinea pigs', I'm going to buy a couple of high-brightness amber LEDs, mount them behind the lenses, and the reflectors will double as indicator (turn signal) repeaters. I'll post results and pics when I'm done. If anyone is interested, I'll do step-by step pics for anyone who wants them.

Re: repeaters
Scott: sounds like a fun mod. You should just plan on taking good pictures of things as you build them, and include a parts list, and maybe it would be something we could write up and post to the site.
So how were you thinking of attaching the LEDs? I'd imagine you'd have to attach some sort of small box behind the reflector, but then you'd also have to cut a clearance hole in the hood, wouldn't you? Here's the pic I'm looking at trying to envision this:

Re: repeaters
I had mine apart a few months ago, to clean a moldy-greenish and waterlogged amber lense, and reflector backing. That "foil" covering is the back reflector. It can be cut along it's edges with a blade, and you can peel it back. Maybe you could fit the LED's between the yellow lense, and the foil backing, and then reseal the foil. I resealed mine with silver foil duct tape. The way mine got messed up was from a break in the amber lense, that allowed water to seap in. After I cleaned it up, and put it back together, I sealed the crack with clear silicone. So far, it's working fine. I'd seal it all up real good so water can't get in and possible cause a short. Maybe you could run the wires up along the hood hinge area, and then along the "tub" of the base of the hood going foward to the markers. Would look kind slick lit up at night...Kinda like the old Pontiac yellow lit indian hood ornaments...:) When I was born, and up to maybe 5-6 years old, we had a 1954 pontiac 2-door catalina star chief or whatever it was...Had that lit yellow indian on the hood. I always thought that was kinda cool..
I wish I had the car now...There are still a few of those around, but fairly scarce. MK
