Re: Swap meet in Nebraska (season opener)
See my finds in the parts section. I definately didn't take enough money. Also I went on Thursday when the vendors were still showing up. I came back past there Sat. on the way home and the place was packed.
There was a really straight 66 shortbed that was apart and the seller sounded real motivated. He had on the windshield something like "any offer, I'm not taking it home"
Also a 46 Hudson pick that was apart, a very rusty 70 shortbed, a real nice 70-72 hood for $50. a couple sets of doors and fenders not worth dragging home at any price.
I also spent Friday scrounging around a couple small towns and found quite a few 68-72 trucks setting around. Also found 3 in a small junk yard. One was a 72 with add on air and power steering and brakes with the small booster. He wanted $150 for all the a/c and the power steering pump, brackets and pulleys. He wanted $1000 for a 68 short bed with a small block. He said it ran. The grill had a wave in it and the interior was rough. I also talked to a widow with a 49 packard and a 42 Chevy pickup in an old carport. I didn't try to buy the Packard (parked because the tranny was out and her late husband couldn't find one) but she wasn't ready to sell the pickup as her son might want it. It was apart and has been setting there for at least 3 years since I first saw it. I did see a very savable 68 F-100 4x4 setting in the weeds with a bunch of old combines and farm junk, a 68-69 Mustang fastback in a carport that looked like it hadn't had any attention for a few years, a yellow 57 Chevy 210 2 door that looked like it hadn't moved in a couple years, a 40ish Chevy sedan delivery setting in a death row. ( I was informed the owner wouldn't sell)
While driving on a back street to get a better look at the sedan delivery, I came past a guy trying to wrestle a hide-a-bed couch onto a trailer by himself and stopped to offer him a hand. We visited for a spell and I told him what I was up to. (he saw my Texas plates and thought his renter's husband had got out of jail and returned) anyway he was very helpful and gave me a lead that led to the phone number of the local Model A guru. I guess he has a big lot full and knows where they all are. I will be contacting him in my quest for parts for my hot rod.
Also as mentioned, my friend has a real straight 76ish Malibu wagon with working a/c that he wants $450 for. Another guy has been looking to buy it but can never seem to get the money together. I am thinking I might jump on that. There just isn't much of those old cars around here in East Texas and I think I could probably double my money on it.
I may make another sweep up that direction in a month or so with the trailer. It is about a 5 hour drive and I always have a place to stay. I will report more later.
