DESPERATE! HELP! Odie related. Please, I need some suggestions here. I'm waiting for his vet to call - hopefully, she can advise me on what course of action to take. (She just called and is faxing a prescription to petsmart for something called A/D by Science Diet) <---- hopefully that helps, but if not - I need all the suggestions any of you can offer.
I have a question for *any* of you that have had to care for an animal with a serious illness. WHAT can I do to get Odie to eat? Has has refused *everything* I've tried to feed him for the past two days. Hubby says "he'll eat when he gets hungry". That answer isn't good enough for me. I have a food processor and a syringe should it come down to that. I don't want to lose my baby boy. Please, *any* suggestions are welcome.
EDIT: Sorry for the sheer amount of panic there ladies. Shortly after posting, I rushed off to petsmart and snatched up several cans of Hills A/D. Odie wouldn't eat this so, I followed the directions on Hills website, diluted the food and fed him with a small syringe (thankfully, I didn't have to force it, he just lapped it up from there). Since this IS a prescription diet, I had to get a special card from the pet hospital within petsmart in order to purchase the food. Despite all of the stress and anxiety I'm going through with this special little one - I had to laugh at the disclaimer on the card - check out the bottom line!

It's always worth checking for mouth sores and any tooth ache when animals are off their food.
Fresh chicken usually goes down well with pooches, good way to test if they are being fussy or are just not hungry!
Re: DESPERATE! HELP! Odie related. Have you tried bland rice and chicken? I think my ex tried that once, I also think he fed the dog cottage cheese, but I could be wrong on that one.

Re: DESPERATE! HELP! Odie related. F4E - no, no problems with his mouth - I've checked. I think his lost of appetite has something to do with the medications he's on. Vienna ... thanks so much for those suggestions but unfortunately, I've already tried them.
For the time being, I'm having to feed him with a small syringe - and will continue to do so until he regains his strength. There is NO WAY IN HELL I'm losing my baby because he will not eat.
On top of Odie being ill, I received the unfortunate news today that Odies' daddy (Bunkie) passed last week from old age. He was 17.
