Speaking of which, I have a dumb question for you Video Vixens: how do you get the video footage clips you use to make your videos? is there a way to capture them as you play a DVD on the computer? or do you have to find 'other" sources?

tools I have on hand:

iMovie
Mac DVD Player
Quicktime
VLC
something that translates .wmvs into Quicktime
Photoshop

I am going to make some wobbly first attempts at movie making, and I sure could use some advice!

emoticon Only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

I rip the DVD. I don't illegally download (I wouldn't know where to start mucking around with the protections on legal downloads, either), I don't rent the movie and rip that.... I buy the DVD and rip it. The reason I started looking into ripping software was because I got my ZVM (MP3 player) - I wanted to be able to put movies I legally owned on it, for mobile viewing. (So far, I've only ripped A Knight's Tale, V4V, and a Looney Tunes short. emoticon)

Later, I realized that created a file that I also could chop up for my own devious purposes. emoticon

Anyway, the DVD ripping software I use is quite user friendly (I paid for it, because I couldn't find any share or freeware that didn't give me a huge headache trying to make it work). It has a preset especially designed for making files my MP3 player can handle (and also YouTube-friendly)... Unfortunately, I can't remember what it's called (I'm at the office, laptop's at home)... But I know FSF uses the same software, so she can probably help us out with the name...

For making the videos themselves, I use Windows Movie Maker, but that information doesn't help you and your Mac, does it? emoticon

I'm happy to try and help out however I can - on the technical OR creative side. emoticon I'm pretty much self-taught, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to be.
