I met him at school. He was my form tutor - sixteen years my senior!
Hey, as long as you weren't actually going out with him while you were still at school, no problem. Other than that, nobody else's opinion matters

I'm very lucky. He's a real romantic. In addition to my roses, he leaves me a loving note every day, which he leaves out for me when I get home from work.

And why should you be afraid of being lynched? Obviously we all have a "thing" for a certain older man!
True! I've always had a thing for older men. As a teenager, all my friends fancied 'Take That' and I fancied Gregory Peck!

Agreed. Although you'de be surprised how many people are prepared to judge us for the nature of our relationship.

NO WAY!! That is so freaky! Just when you think you're the only one!
I was gutted when he died too. They don't make 'em like that anymore!

Bollocks to them. None of their business. Your life. Etc.
If it makes you feel any better, my mother's older brother is married to a woman more than 20 years his junior! And they've been married as long as I can remember. I don't even remember his first wife.
(More and more British-English phrases have been sneaking out of the back corners of my mind lately... )

Couldn't have put it better myself!

Well, it doesn't actually concern me, I'm quite happy with our age difference. It's good to know that we're not the only ones tho!

Is this in preparation for London?
Practice the following and you'll fit right in:
Awright guv, are you 'avin' a giraffe?
Feckin weather!
Where's my cuzzer and larger?
Or you could go for the poncy approach and use the following:
Top of the morning to you (tip hat)
Golly, looks like rain again don't you know.
Actually don't use any of them, or your liable to be beaten up!
Use of 'bollocks' is almost mandatory though!

Might be, but it's not intentional/conscious. They've been slipping into my speech, thoughts, and writing (including proper cross-the-pond spelling) without my noticing until I hear what I said and think, "What?!"
Probably most to do with spending too much time lately listening to British recordings and hanging out a bit on a British message board... Or maybe it's because my character, Corran, is getting more vocal... Or watching too much BBC America (saw three episodes of Sea of Souls back-to-back last weekend)... Or a combination/cross-pollination of all of the above.
I'm also just a plain ol' Anglophile - British phrasings/pronunciations/words are a constant part of my vocabulary, usually because I prefer them for some reason. It's just that they're becoming more frequent of late.

Oi, what you trying to do? Land me in hospital? Don't be trying to pull one over on me - remember, I lived in London for three and a half months during one of my university terms.
But if you'd like to discuss more phrasings, I'd be glad to pop 'round the pub with you and we can discuss this over some bangers 'n mash. (yum!)

As well as "****," as I recall. I had to train myself out of saying that so frequently before I returned home, as that's the one swear word me mum cannot stand.
(And no, I don't usually use phrases like "me mum" - I'm exaggerating for humorous effect. )

quote: Dr. Phil (the last of our male boardies ~ NOT that tool with the TV show) explained it all nicely on another thread hereabouts.
Not sure I want to think about why I'm into older men. Don't wanna be told I'm searching for a father figure or something!
There's nothing wrong with a bit of gentle denial.
