Avatars by ButMad...
These are the first avatars I made all by my lonesome. And they actually sized down to 100x100 without pixelating or doing something weird. I still need to figure out the logistics of text - small, yet readable...
The first four were all the same pic (a screencap I made from the opening of Dresden Files), playing with different effects and text:
1. 2.
3. 4.
#3 is my favorite (made the image B&W, then pasted in a copy of the original blue glow), with #4 a close second.
This one:
is a screencap from a behind-the-scenes video when Jim Butcher, the author of the books Dresden Files is based on, visited the set and did an extra role. - L to R: Jim, Terrence Mann (Bob), Paul Blackthorne (Harry Dresden)
And I put a caption on it, but am trying to think of a better phrase:
(Got any requests? V or something?)

Thanks! I used Microsoft Picture It!, IIR the name correctly. I think I got the program free with my MSN Premium software. It's pretty useful...
A bunch of my photo manipulations on that thread were done while I was goofing off at work, so those were done with Corel Photo-Paint.

Re: Avatars by ButMad...
Bravo ButMad! These are great.
What is it about this Dresden chappie? Not sure I know who he is. He looks scrummy tho!
Sum it up for me, if you had the opportunity to spend a night with V or a night with other scrummy one, which would you choose? (Please note, there is no 'both' or 'too hard, I can't choose' option)
The options are as follows:
1. V
2. Dresden geezer
3. Death!

Here are the avatars I made for freedom4ever:
(I have an idea for an animated one that I'm going to attempt tonight, if I can get it to work...)

Before I answer that, what do you mean by "Dresden geezer"?

Well b4 I followed your link to the explanation of who he is (A wizard, no less!) I had no idea who he was or if 'Dresden' was his first name/surname, so to me he was just gonna be either Mr Dresden, Dresden fella, Dresden geezer etc..
So the choice remains! The wizard or V!
Right then, I'm off to play with my new avatar.

My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. When things get strange, when what goes bump in the night flicks on the lights, when no one else can help you, give me a call.
I'm in the book.
(I need to hurry up and finish Peter Pan so I can get to these books!!)

Aha. The usage of "geezer" with which I'm most familiar means "old dude," so for a second I wasn't sure if you were referring to Harry, or the white-haired gent in my current avatar (who is "Bob, aka Hrothbert of Bainbridge," no relation to Dresden).
quote: So the choice remains! The wizard or V!
Sorry, V. As much as I adore you and everything you've done for me this past year....
If I'm going to "spend a night" (using any interpretation of that phrase you please) with one of the two (and I only get to choose between the two), I have to choose Harry Dresden.
First off, there's no existing debate (so far as I'm aware) about the effect of severe burns.
Second, the man's a frickin' wizard!
Third, he's closer to my age than either that other Harry wizard or V (in fact, if I'm understanding the books' timeline correctly, he may be MY age in the books; and Paul Blackthorne is only 10 years older than me).
Fourth, he's got a wicked snark....
Fifth, I don't have any experience either way to base this on, but I assume kissing flesh is preferable to a mask...
Mileage may vary as I start reading the books - all above opinions based on the TV show and what I've picked up about the books through skimming and BookFans.
I would, however, go for V if the evening involved Shakespeare, deep conversation, and/or a DVD viewing of something. (In the books, Dresden's magical "aura" screws up all modern electronics - I hear he only gets cold showers, poor guy.)
I'm eternally grateful to V for shaking my worldview, introducing me to a wonderful, international group of friends, and other effects on my life. And he's sexy as hell in his own way. But......
Okay, I'm stopping.

Re: Avatars by ButMad...
*fanfare* My first animated GIFs!
Variation 1 - Substituted one end text screen for another.
Variation 2 - Included both end text screens.
Variation 3 - Same as the embedded one above, but substituted Book-Harry.
