ButMadNNW, your photos are pretty fabulous. Really - they're very cool indeed. Understated, powerful, beautifully composed and wonderfully shot. You should set up your own site of them...
Thank you, Declan, Viriata, Bohwea!
I've been thinking about setting up a site, maybe offering some shots for sale... Real Life and limited web knowledge intervene without fail.
Hey, JAD - nice photos! I see you offer them for sale. Do you develop them yourself? Do you worry about people just right-clicking and doing "Save as..."? (See, this is part of my problem - I haven't been able to figure out the logistics.)

Ah. Consider the questions retracted, then.

Re: Photography
Morpheus, the contrast and colour are good, but it's not always clear what the subject is - or at least, what you intended it to be.
With a little more consideration on what, exactly, you want to show in the picture and a more rigorous practice of composition, I think you could do very well.

Nice photos, morpheus! But Bohwea has a point...
As for the contrast in mine - you should see the copy of the Belgium pic that's hanging in my living room - it's much darker and has more contrast. For some reason, it just doesn't look as good online...

Re: Photography
Mistress NNW, you can always futer around with the images in photoshop or similar program before uploading them.
Remember - the colour of the background will always heavily influence how your pictures are seen. the backgrounds here are very dark against black, so any picture without a lot of black might look paler or less contrasted than usual.
I suspect against a white background the images would seem quite a bit darker/more contrasting.
It could also be that the developers of the print amped up the contrast, it's not uncommon. But I think they looked great :)
All the photos on this thread have been very interesting so far, and from such different parts of the world!
Ta, NNW and Morpheus for sharing ;)
(Anyone else got some exotic locations?)

But that would mean...work!
Kidding! When I first posted them, I was trying to do something quick and dirty and just attempted to link to the place online (Kodak Gallery) where they're already stored. But that didn't work.
You have a point about the background, which did finally occur to me. At home, the three poster-prints I have are in black frames with white mats, and the mat is black inside, so the bevel around the photo is black. I like them.
But anyway... I'm glad my work is being appreciated and that others are sharing theirs.

Re: Photography
Subject?
For me there is no subject- I just take a shot if i like an image, if i find it beautiful in color, sharpness, forms, motives etc.
I dont want express nothng with them.
I just look at them and find them beautiful to gaze at.
Its nothing more than a composition of things mentioned that i find good looking.
I never care about hings you said, i mean, i didnt make such kind of photos.
But to be exact:
In the first one, i liked how the weighty leaves accompanied the "light" building.
In the second, i loved the juicy green color of the grass plus the pink flowers matching with the texture of the wall.
In the third its the white buildings and grey streets with the blue sky and sea.
The fourth the darker landscape with the
brighter sky.
The fifh, again, the vivid lilac, greenish colors of the flora accompanied with the wall and its designed black fence.
And the last one about how the shadow of the wall falls on to that -counting the wall- small looking tree.
And that has nothing to do with what i emphasize on, what i want to show- Its, for me, only about the contrast, colors, sharpness and the beauty of the featured things. I love vivid and sharp compositions.
And for my taste theyre yummy, but theyre not professional or anything, i made them with a simple digital cam when i was there
, for fun, because i wanted to photograph what i found interesting and pretty to have it later for me or other people to show.
It seems i make pictures of things others dont find so intriguing or great.
Whats the difference between mine and Butmads pictures?
Because i dont see any.
But as said, im not really knowledged in photography, i just do it for myself.
