I have been reading through the "sparkle" thread, it's fun imagining going to the theater - repeatedly - and trying desperately to remember the juicy bits! Bits we all came to know by heart, and which perhaps some have by now even begun to forget! And the photo manipulation thread, I must contribute something naughty there soon, and the...oh you get the idea.
So you know how many pages of posts I have to go yet to catch up!
I will happily keep poking my nose into dusty corners to see what I can stir up

Yeah, we've been quite productive in the past three(!) years.

Re: IS Anyone Out There?
What Flare said, VV! I for one am really glad you're here - seeing your fresh enthusiasm is reminding me...
I saw V4V on opening night, mostly by chance. I'd seen it advertised, knew who Guy Fawkes was already, and was intrigued. But I forgot about the movie until St. Patrick's Day 2006, when Mom and I were out together and looking for something else to do. I called for the movie showings, and....
I literally bounced out of the theatre. I couldn't explain exactly why V and his film hit me as hard or as deep as they did, even to this day, but I can now look back on the last three years and know that there are many things that would not have happened the way they did without V. Even things that are, on the surface, seemingly unconnected to my becoming obsessed with the film. Dominoes.
With years of experience behind me, I knew there was only one place to turn when I found myself yet again overly obsessed with something - something that no one else in my real world seemed to care much about - and that place was, of course, the Internet!
I've been here in the Shadow Gallery since the board's 2nd or 3rd day - I was part of the group over on IMDb who said, "Y'know, there are a lot of idiots here - maybe we should just start our own board!"
I've watched the board grow from a few "OMG, that film was so amazing" fans to a true community, a family. Through the Vixens, I've met some of the most amazing people I've ever known, and made some lasting friendships. (Heck, for me, even three years is an amazingly long friendship! I've had incredibly bad luck in the past.) I've been challenged, by V4V and the relationships I've forged around it, to examine and even alter some of my thinking. I saw how different people were affected by the film and what we each brought away from it.
And, of course, there was the Gathering in London, November 2007, complete with some of us standing outside Parliament on the night of November the 4th as Big Ben counted slowly to twelve, ushering in Guy Fawkes Day.
I've observed the board slowly change. Unlike other online groups of which I've been a part, once we moved past V a bit, many of us realized we shared other interests as well, and the many threads of the Gallery reflect that.
And I've seen the Vixens slowly drift apart, as Real Life imposed its will on us and as interest in the film that united us gradually waned.
But there is life here yet. "Blessed" is not a word I use easily, but I do feel blessed to have been a part of the Vendetta Vixens. Our enthusiasm outlasted my expectations, the board is still going (however quietly), and there are friends here I will never let go, if I have any say in the matter.
I suppose it's only natural to wax nostalgic as we come up on the anniversaries of V4V and the Vendetta Vixens... Thank you for indulging me.
Again, welcome! And please do not feel at all shy about resurrecting any old thread that strikes your fancy. Mayhap you can teach us Vixen veterans a thing or two! You should now have access to the "Members Only" threads, so be sure to check out some of our photography from London and whatnot!
PS - And if you haven't, go see Watchmen! Like V4V before it, it is likely the best film adaptation that could have been made from one of Alan Moore's graphic novels.

And thanks again, for the warm welcomes. The enthusiasm felt by the whole membership here is really obvious when you read through the old threads. It's a very interesting (and familiar) collection of thoughts & opinions. And I've been thrilled to see it's often very intelligent discussion. (as well as some earthier stuff ahem). It gives me great pleasure (and relief) to read some thoughtful insight and analysis, and to know that people were genuinely moved by this movie & book.

After finally really connecting with the story this past summer, I was kind of wandering in the desert hating the unhappy emotional state it leaves me in (not a fan of tragedy, here, to sum it up briefly) when it struck me that there had to be a hefty collection of V-fanfic on the net. I thought that might cheer me up so I went foraging. First collection I navigated to was PEAHopeless's. Whew! I went looking for chat forums etc. but they are all cold and dead now, or boring, you are very lucky you have found a way to keep some life in yours here - the other group I've found great fun in and which is still, happily, definitely alive and well, is the f_for_fanfic group on LJ.

I've read about that gathering, and some of the other with more than a twinge of sadness, again for not 'giving in' sooner; I've been a member of other web communities in the past which have done similar things, including congregating from the far corners of the world, so I know what a trip that can be! I am very glad you all had that experience, even though of course I'm also jealous as hell. Perhaps I shall fling some daggers at myself? ;)

You're very fortunate in all those things, except of course the sad truth about drifting apart *sigh* and again I'm glad that at least a few Vixens are still hanging around to chat up newcomers.

I feel I'm the one being indulged! And happy V4V anniversary to all, it is nearly here! Might be a bit of a quiet party... ;)

So far I keep mum for the most part, except for this thread, assuming that whatever I might bring up is already here, somewhere...I am making progress though and am really enjoying reading your conversations. I find myself scribbling notes to come back here and there to pipe up. I do feel a bit like an eavesdropper...well, the name suits!

Thanks for that, I'd PMed Leta who thought it was all set up also but I couldn't get in. I recognized it as a place members shared more personal info so I thought maybe it wasn't really kosher to let someone new in, but I will certainly enjoy seeing London pics!
quote: PS - And if you haven't, go see Watchmen! Like V4V before it, it is likely the best film adaptation that could have been made from one of Alan Moore's graphic novels.
Watchmen! Yikes! Did it! I was a bit more prepared for that one. I loved it, and am going to see it again (and again). It did not have the same gut-punching emotional impact on me as V4V did, well they are very different kinds of stories...but it is an immensely thought provoking, rich, HUGE work and I thought they did a wonderful job bringing it to the screen. Actually I was wondering if one of your group would start a new forum topic for that movie and scare some people out of the woodwork...
Sorry about quoting so much and posting such a big blah-blah reply, but, well, the traffic is light, so...

Yes, being a group of brainy broads (and a few gents) has always been our "claim to fame"!
quote: there had to be a hefty collection of V-fanfic on the net.
I don't really do (read or write) fanfic anymore (got "burned" a bit back in my Highlander: The Series days), but I did do a one-off "missing scene" for V: The Descent. Check out the Viction board, if you haven't. We have/had quite a few talented writers around, including my housemate, MelindaKitty (to whom I also refer as "KittyRoomie").
quote: I've read about that gathering, and some of the other with more than a twinge of sadness, again for not 'giving in' sooner;
Never say never. I kind of doubt we'll ever have that experience again, but Flare and I saw each other again in London last November, Iseult is planning to come out here to California in August to visit me and KittyRoomie... And I'll be back in the UK *checks ticker* in 7 months, 3 weeks, and 5 days (not that I'm counting! ).
Speaking of, drop by Who Are You? and tell us more about yourself! (That's a members-locked area, so a bit more secure for those who don't wish to spill their location or any other details in "public.")
quote: I feel I'm the one being indulged! And happy V4V anniversary to all, it is nearly here! Might be a bit of a quiet party... ;)
Well, KittyRoomie & I are planning to watch the movie that night, at least.
quote: So far I keep mum for the most part, except for this thread, assuming that whatever I might bring up is already here, somewhere...
*wistfully remembers the days when she knew where every thread was and their general contents* I pretty much used to be the "go-to gal" if someone was looking for a certain conversation. Unfortunately, our search function... well, it sucks.

Ahhh, yeah. Sorry about that. The lovely Leda hasn't really been active in a while, and because we've had a few people come in and post once, never to return, I'd started being more cautious about letting new members into the locked areas. (It's hard to tell if people are posting once just to get into our more private info and photos.) I forgot to tell Leda that. When she let you in, you'd only posted once or twice, and I wasn't yet sure about you (i.e. if you were going to stick around), so I removed you and explained my thinking to her, with which she agreed.
But you're back in now, promise! Forgive me?

MelindaKitty and I saw it last night, and will be seeing it again (with a group this time) next Friday. I Rorschach.

Hmm... Will this do? (You are allowed to start topics, you know!)

Absolutely no worries there!

Re: IS Anyone Out There?
Dear Voracious,
It's never too late to start hanging around here. You never know who will drop in. I haven't been around for the last few days because I was at a convention in San Franciso and I took the opportunity to visit one of the other Vixens (CyranoRox) and her husband, who's also a fan. I had a great time and, yes, we did go to see "Watchmen." So if you'd like to discuss Rorschach, et al I'd be most happy to oblige.
I think the real reason this board has such cohesiveness is that deep down there must be some things we all share in common, not just a love of the film, although that's a big part of it. The film, IMHO, is a touchstone for our somewhat eccentric natures.
So I've devised a little psychological profile that seems to fit a lot of us.
You know you're a Vixen if:
1. You have more books than months you've been alive.
2. You've actually read most of those books.
3. You have a fondness for basic black.
4. Fantasy is not a dirty word to you.
5. You actually care about politics.
6. You actually care about ethics.
7. You have a fondness for raspy-voiced leading men. (Add one point if the actor is British. Add 10 points if he wears a mask.)
8. You feel that dreams are as important as "Real Life."
9. You feel that music is a necessary as food.
10. You feel that one can never have too many hats or boots.
So how'd you score?

check. And that's a lot of months. (Though V has more. )
quote: 2. You've actually read most of those books
Haha. And a special shelf for pending ones?
quote: 3. You have a fondness for basic black.
Especially on those leading men...
quote: 4. Fantasy is not a dirty word to you.
quote: 5. You actually care about politics.
quote: 6. You actually care about ethics.
double CHECK
quote: 7. You have a fondness for raspy-voiced leading men. (Add one point if the actor is British. Add 10 points if he wears a mask.)
*sigh* what is it about dysfunctional masked men anyway? I get lots of points on that one
quote: 8. You feel that dreams are as important as "Real Life."
I hope they are ...
quote: 9. You feel that music is a necessary as food.
Hmm. well, I normally only eat a couple times a day but I would prefer to have music all the time. Not sure but I think that's a yes.
quote: 10. You feel that one can never have too many hats or boots.
Funny, but Vendetta awoke a latent thing for boots. It's been ages since I indulged this desire and though I purged my footwear last year I could not part with any of my boots. I just bought the most luscious new pair last month. Hats though, I don't really do, unless it's keeping the heat in or the sun off!
quote: So how'd you score?
Hmm..maybe that helps explain why I feel a bit sad about finding you all after the fact. I'm sure you're right, there's reasons the film had such a powerful draw and it obviously really speaks to certain mindsets, fans of a film like V4V are bound to discover they have much in common, besides being reduced to puddles by the unlikeliest of leading men. Still, there is or was a lot of 'noise' out there in the movie's fan arena so I think you had a measure of luck (?) in the people who crossed paths in here.

I have read a couple stories there, and one of Leda's at her 'shrine,' but I'm funny about things like that and will read your board's collection and whatever I find through this forum when I'm done reading the collection at the Vigilante site. There is no 'order' to them - except in my head - and that's just to make sure I don't miss a word of it. Like the name says..if you write it, I will read it.
