What was V before he was sent to Larkhill? Was he an actor who acted in shakespearean plays? Is he an actor/composer?
If we had the answer to this, we could continue our extensive psychoanalyzing of V. But considering how V is in the movie, it does make you think he was a thespian before Larkhill.

Re: V is lovable
Somewhere in the back pages there is a reference to an comment by HW himself that, when he accepted the part at the last minute, the character was changed to a former actor. His decision.
Anyone have a reference on this to check? I used it as a premise in an argument in this thread:
on 7/2/06, but I didn't dig it up.

Re: V is lovable
quote: I know the whole bleedin' script off by heart
I actually have made a bit of an effort NOT to do so. I have a natural facility for such, which was aided and abetted by being active in theatre for many years (to this day, years after working the production, get me started on "Joseph...Dreamcoat" and I can sing my way completely thru the durn thing), and I'm geeky enough as it is without having completely memorised this movie.
Unfortunately it's happening despite myself, lol. Oh well, what the hey.
And Martin, I do heartily agree with you, that is an adorable little exchange, with V's delightfully tongue in cheek sense of humor firmly in evidence. The giggle "gets me every time." Another scene which produces a similar response in me is V fencing with the suit of armor, and the aftermath when Evey catches him at it. You can practically see him blushing right through Guy Fawkes. Totally huggable at that moment.
