Seriously, though, I appreciate the ardor with which you defend V's lack of ardor, even if I disagree. The idea of love being "pure" or "impure" is a Christian (and largely Victorian) concept. Actually, the whole love affair between V and Evey as depicted in the fim is very Victorian in that it is mostly a game of words and it is doomed to failure. The ninteenth century is full of such tragic, unrequited romances.
That said, the implied attraction, the virtual "steam" Hugo manages to communicate in several different key moments, provides part of the interest to modern audiences. We're very much a "will they, won't they, do they, don't they" kind of crowd, and in a relationship like that between V and Evey - which is clearly unconsummated on screen - there is sometimes a sense of betrayal that nothing DOES happen. Hollywood, which is as quick to shuck off its unmentionables as the average $20 whore, gives us the assumption that if a man and a woman appear in the same film, they will inevitably end up in bed together. Of course, real life isn't always so simple or so salacious, and romantic relationships are much more complicated than a come-hither look and a prophylactic (which honestly, I wish they'd refer to more and not less.)
But film is fantasy. Many people (myself included) go to movies to escape from real life. Real life, quite frankly, sucks rocks. I prefer to leave wallowing in unhappiness and misery to people who haven't already faced enough unhappiness and misery in their own lives.
Let me get to the point here. V FOR VENDETTA is the cinematic representation of a work of fiction. It evokes strong emotional responses because it deals with some very deep and personal issues. Vixens and Veeks alike can take the characters very personally and be quite offended if the "wrong" kind of interaction is depicted. (Which is the reason I decline to comment on some fan fiction; after a series of brief flirtations with it, I find I just can't live with the "And then, V wakes up and leaps off the train to go live Happily Ever After with Evey" concept.) It's you're right to disagree. It's the right of another fan to agree. But the key here is to recognize that if someone disagrees with you, you have the perfect right to defend your point of view. The caveat is that you must do so in a way that is convincing, otherwise you run the risk of not being taken seriously.
This board invites all kinds of discourse. As one of the mods (aka Consuls), I encourage civilized discourse. That means you don't have to agree with or even like somebody, but you do have to be nice to them. It's also not a bad idea to develop a sense of humor about the inevitability that you will run into people with whom you cannot agree, no matter how hard you try.
One of my personal mottos is: "Learn to laugh at yourself or others will do it for you."
And if you feel you've been treated unfairly, you are certainly welcome to say so. The person to whom you are speaking may or might not respond (unfortunately, no one ever said life was fair), and if they don't your choices are to stay angry, to forgive, or to move on.
As ButMad hasn't replied, I'm going to move on. I would recommend you do the same.
This particular video, with its tongue so obviously and firmly in cheek, was actually part of the inspiration for the little video project I've got sizzling on my back burner.
Now all I need is to figure out how to edit and compose a video.
Ah well.

So, were they "sorta, kinda" laughing at you or not? Biscom, honestly, I reacted to your indignation in two ways. First of all, I thought it was hilarious, in a "Daaaaaaaamn you Addams!!" kind of way. I don't think it would be honest to call it anything but laughing at what you wrote. Second, I found it increasingly moving that the idea mattered so much for you - that you found such an insinuation about V wrong enough to get sincerely angry about. People who care that much about ideas tend to fascinate me, and the rare girl who would stand up for the man of her dreams like that would ascend quickly in my respect.
Does that change the laughing part? Everyone who did, in point of fact, laugh at Biscom, should IMO at least be honest with themselves in that that's what they did, even if they don't bother to post about it. That said, and with all respect, I don't know if they owe you to post an explanation, Biscom - if you post on the internet, you'll be laughed at, because the internet is where people fool around with one another. I doubt anyone meant anything by it, but even if they did, who cares?
edit: Bah, I somehow ended up offering karma to the kitty again.
