It's the little things...
While reading Storm Front last night, I came across a small phrase - three words, really - that engulfed me with a new sense of caring for/about Harry Dresden. Three little words that made me go, "Whoa" and helped immensely in my understanding of the character.
Those three words were "I found him" - and the context:
quote: I never got to be old enough to be [my dad's] assistant, as he had promised me. He died in his sleep one night. An aneurism, the doctors said. I found him, cold, smiling.
It's not clear on this page how old Harry was when this happened, but I think I've read he was 10 or so when his dad died (his mom died in childbirth, IIRC). Not only his dad died, but he was the one to find the body?
Anyway.
Has anyone else found a "little thing" that helped define a character, changed the way you looked at a story, made a movie, etc.?

Re: It's the little things...
I am reading Storm Front right now, and loving Harry in print... what a great character, and I have lots of books to look forward to! Literary candy, YUM!
So, thanks for sharing your "towel boy"!
Well, we all know about the subtle moments where we fell for V... little things like:
"Not any more." and the giggle.
Let me ponder this, since my feeble memory isnt yielding up details at the moment. I bet there is, there must be, that subtle moment, a turn of a phrase, a shade of a meaning, when the heart opens and a connection is made.

Re: It's the little things...
I've come to understand one reason I really love Harry Dresden on the printed page: I am inside his head as he grapples with his magic and his courage and his commitment to his work. I really love being with him as he muddles through... he may have fantastic powers, but he is so NOT a 'super' hero, really just on ordinary guy. who is a wizard.
I have gobbled up the first three books and am taking a break to read something I found while buying more Dresden books at Barnes & Noble: Ysabel,
by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's off to a great start in a cathedral in Provence, with a clever teen protagonist feeling drawn into ancient mysteries.

The official word is that SciFi hasn't made a decision. Most people take that to mean they actually have made a decision (not to renew), but for some reason don't want to come out and admit it.
Specifically, a higher-up at Lionsgate (the production company) wrote this in an email to one of the fans: "We love the show too. Sci Fi Channel has the power to renew it, but has not decided to unfortunately. I would follow up with them. I noticed that fans of Jericho reversed CBS's decision to cancel that show earlier this year."
Letter-writing and similar campaigns are ongoing.
