Gah! Here we go again ... posting directly after myself emoticon . Anyway, this isn't *entirely* Harry Potter related (in a way, it is) but a bit of hilarity experienced last night during a conversation with a friend that I haven't spoken with for a while.

He of course, asked me what was new so - I got all of the depressing stuff out of the way first. Then, I happened to mention that I just finished reading the final book in the Harry Potter series.

His reaction? "WHAT - you read WHAT? Only NERDS read THAT! I don't speak to NERDS"!
My Response: "Didn't you mention several weeks back that your computer "needs fixin"?
Friend: "WAIT! I take that back ... I like nerds, I LIKE NERDS"!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticon - and apart from that, I don't see why a person is a nerd because he/she reads Harry Potter emoticon reading Star Trek novels - now that's nerdy, but not Harry Potter emoticon

Well, yes - I'm guilty of that as well as Dr. Who novels. Heh ... wonder what my friend would have to say about that?! emoticon emoticon emoticon

 emoticon emoticon emoticon

I finished HP & the DH last night, on a plane flying home after an emotional family meeting (went well, but I was worried for weeks about how it would go). Here I am weeping copiously over my book...

(it was a small jet, just 35 seats, and at least 3 of us were reading DH!)

I cried for how beautifully she resolved this wonderful saga.

I cried for Snape and his incredible occlumency, and the depth of his heart. And that moment of "look into my eyes...." wow. I feel deep and hollow inside, in a good way.

I cried for Remus and Tonks, leaving their baby. I cried for Dumbledore, and the courage with which he accepted his end.

there is so much more to say... but I am off to re-read the last 3 chapters again, it was so incredible.

JKR is really an awe inspiring talent.

 emoticon emoticon emoticon indeed.

*pops head into thread*

I'd just like to announce that as of Sunday night, around 11pm PDT, I have FINISHED the Harry Potter series!

 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

For those of you keeping score, that means I read books 6 and 7 (around 1400 pages) in about a month! emoticon

Will catch up on the discussion in here later, now that I no longer have to dodge spoilers. (Although a book group member spoiled Hedwig's death for me last month, and KittyRoomie accidentally spoiled Snape's. *sigh* Ah, well. I got spoiled for Sirius's and Dumbledore's, so I shouldn't be surprised.)

COOL!!!! We can finally discuss it!! But O'Mad one - it's been so long ago that I've finished, I'll have to re-read it to do so. emoticon

It took me about five days total for both. Once I started, I couldn't put either down. Can we say "reading marathon"?!

Snape, Hedwig and all the others emoticon emoticon emoticon .
The final book in the series was fantastic - but admit it, the epilogue was more than a bit lame. It came off more as a bit of bad fan fiction rather than something by Ms. Rowling.

OH! And speaking of Ms. Rowling ... did you hear that she announced during the weekend the character of Albus Dumbledore was gay? Pardon the expression but - children's series my ass. That being said - I'd LOVE to see a revised version hit the shelves with the characters as they *really* are.
