Looking for Stories
Hey, if anyone still pokes into the Literary Lounge, I've got a question for you.
I've just ordered World Tales off the recommendation of a site I highly respect, but I'm looking around for other collections of "classic" stories, myths, etc.
I.e. I just downloaded the Arabian Nights from Gutenberg.org because it occurred to me that I've never read it. However, I'd much rather have a good printed edition than a plain text file. (Call me old-fashioned, I like to hold paper books in my hands, not read them off an LCD screen.)
So, if anyone has a collection of stories you'd like to share, please do. ISBNs (10-digit number on the back cover, usually) would be most helpful to me, so I can locate the exact edition to which you're referring.
Thanks.

Re: Looking for Stories
The Panchatantra, trx Arthur W ryder. Indian tales with a surprizingly skeptical, perspicacious bent. This translation is good English, and emphasises the humor and irony built into the stories.
from memory: "the king had 3 sons: Great-power, Terrible-power, and Awesome-power, and they were complete blockheads"- the rest of the stories are for their education.
an older translation was the first book published in English, iirc, the stories have never been out of print - the longest run I know of
If you are reading the Arabian Nights, look for Richard Burton's translation. He, himself, might make a heartthrob worthy of a Vixen.
