emoticon You can't believe how good that comment makes me feel! emoticon I went through many frustrating years of slow reading, knowing that I wasn't reading as fast as I could when I was a kid.... Have been working on it for a few months.

Really? I find that hard to believe! I've seen you and Melinda quoting pages and pages of Shakespearean dialogue at each other from memory (with British accents no less!)
I watched half in slack-jawed amazement and half amused as you two "played the dozens" for several minutes and wondered, How do they do it? It took me a month just to memorize V's introduction speech!

Oh, *pshaw* memorizing's easy emoticon (it's my stupid human trick - have always had a freakish ability to memorize and retain movie dialogue, i.e.). But my reading speed was extremely slow for a long time - frustrated me no end. I'm gradually improving.

And, interestingly enough, a side effect of learning to play guitar seems to be an increased typing speed! emoticon

*nods* I can vouch for that. When ButMad writes on messenger, she's completed five sentences, while I'm still running my finger along the rows looking for the shift key! emoticon

Brava, Dr D.

on this point:
quote:

MHO, I don’t think that the Guy Fawkes trope makes much sense in the film, but it is a cool stylistic concept. In the GN, V is not a hero. His terrorism is merely a counterpoint to Susan’s (Sutler’s) fascism. The film, though, places V unquestionably into the role of hero, although a deeply flawed one. And Guy Fawkes, although a martyr, was not really a hero.

may I add that Guy is one of a very short list of images that can be read as he-who-we-killed, he-who-we-always-kill; a face that says 'I did not die' at the same time it says 'you can kill me'. Or, as he more elegantly states, victim and villain.
