Favorite Book
Okay everyone, so I am sure V for Vendetta is everyone's favorite right now. Aside from that, what is your favorite book (or one of your favorites) and why?
I LOVE Pride and Prejudice. I love the way Elizabeth and Darcy exchange witty jibes, and both secretly like each other. I think their romance was spellbinding!

Re: Favorite Book
I really like 1984. Orwell's stark presentation of the setting and time is fantastic. I also like Orwell's word usage, such as "black terror."

Re: Favorite Book
I'm a big fan of The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice.
As for George Orwell I've read quite a bit of his work and though his ideas are amazing, I find his writing to be a little on the boring side.
I like reading about history and the supernatural and things like that but I don't have a favorite book.

Re: Favorite Book
You really expect me to choose just one??
My stock answer is: "The last one I read, and the next one I'll read!"
Love sci-fi, fantasy... getting into psychological crime thriller (Val McDermid)... nonfiction/political I don't like... um... yeah.

Re: Favorite Book
Hmm. I'm an ardent fan of Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" novels, but I must say...you can pull my fingernails out, but I won't pick a favourite. That's like asking someone which of their children is their favourite

Re: Favorite Book
Anyone ever heard of R.A Lafferty?
All of his books or short stories are my favorite.
Especially "Fourth Mansions".
The guy was a flippin genius.

Re: Favorite Book
V naturally! :P
Ok ok seriously, since I haven't gotten my warm little mitts on V, my favorite book is by an author named Douglas E. Winter called "Run"
It's an intriguing little noir style story about a gunrunner (not like Lord of War, no where near close really) who is having some qualms about the business and decides to go on a 'milk run' only to get caught up in something much larger than himself.
The story is intricate and involving, the characters well developed and a whole lot of insightful thoughts into the world of politics, guns, gangs, assassinations, and big business. It's also a strangely amazingly fast read for being so large. 500 something + pages, and I can still glide my way through it in a single day (where a similarly sized King novel would take me three days or so)...
Anyways, that's my pick
