What books are you reading?
ASIDE from any "V" material. At present, I'm reading Wladyslaw Szpilmans The Pianist - and crying my heart out! It's difficult to believe such atrocities were allowed to take place. Even more hard to swallow - the resurrection of the Nazi youth. Yes ... IMHO, there is indeed something very wrong with this *world*.

Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass
Another more generic collection of poetry (textbook, actually)

Is there a link to that? Or did she send it to you?
Finished reading The Pianist. Currently working on H. B. Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. Following that, I have Henry David Thoreau's Walden, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein lined up (not necessarily in that order). Had a field day at the book store last week (my second home) - obviously, all classics. Needed a change of pace - the normal fare around here is usually Science fact & fiction, fantasy, Greek & Norse mythology, the mystic arts, true crime, forensics, astronomy, psychology, studies of world religions and a rapidly growing stack of literature surrounding the events of WWII.
So, what genre's are all of you other ladies (and gentlemen) particularly fond of?

I'm one of Mel's Beta readers.

Is that all? I have two full shelves in my bookcase (which is a large closet I converted by installing shelves) of books I've been trying to get around to reading for years! Other books keep jumping line.

Fantasy and SciFi, mostly. Recently started reading some psychological-crime thriller (Val McDermid).

I used to read absolutely anything, but in the past 10-12 years my spare time has been vastly reduced. I now stick mostly with non-fiction. History, travel, crime, biographies, natural sciences... that kind of thing. I also like to read cookbooks! (weird, I know! )

Hmmmm ... considering this forum mainly consists of ladies - anyone think that would be a good idea for a new thread? Recipes?

I think it's a great idea, Cygnus! I enjoy cooking so much that I've been toying with the idea of starting a catering business when I move back east. I've got a lot of recipes that might appeal to a variety of tastes and would be more than happy to share them. Also, the fact that everyone on this board is so spread out from each other, sharing regional favorites could be a lot of fun. (I'd love to know if Venturous makes Maryland Crab Cakes! )
