I hope to be there, but it depends on whether I can get a few days off from where I'll be staying in my placement period at that time. Sadly I won't know until next August

I don't know about Denmark, but most American employers I've worked with, if you go in on the first day or week and explain that you have long-standing plans to be away during such and such a time, they'll usually make allowance for it.... They shouldn't expect you to change plans you've had for months.
Doesn't hurt to ask.

I've just found something that put a spring in my step, anyway. I was planning to ask for two weeks off for the Gathering, but had a sudden pause for thought.
Normally, my boss doesn't like two team members to be on holiday at the same time, and one of my colleagues is a Muslim and always takes a lot of time off for Ramadan (could get into a rant about religion, won't, swore not to...) but as it transpires, there's no need to worry. Ramadan falls early next year, and will be over by the middle of October.

Believe me, I will and it probably won't be a problem at all. It's just annoying not to know - and not to be able to know until next August
