Re: For The Love Of V

To give an idea about me & this V thing, I've been in love with the Phantom of the Opera stage musical for 18 years. At first I was obsessed, but that died, and a deeper love & appreciation replaced the lust. I find myself attracted to just about all versions of it (except the 2004 movie, but that's for another topic...)

I find I love stories that have a Phantom-y theme (or a Beauty and the Beast theme). V4V is right up there. Very Phantom-y in some aspects--on the surface, (but he is such a deeper character and the story is so much deeper one than Phantom is). I find I like it more and more each day. I try not to watch it, or listen to the soundtrack(s) I have every day because I don't want to turn myself off on what a wonderful bit of film this is. But it's in my thoughts every day for certain. I've been careful with what I collect on V4V. My real collection does belong to the Phantom of the Opera, but there are pieces of V4V which will fit in with it. The novelization, the GN, the DVD (well I actually have 2 DVD's...the Korean version that only plays on my computer then the Best Buy exclusive with the mask for the rest of the house) A few magazines, lots of pics I've saved over the 'net (they're free! lol) and many of the video interviews & such I've found through the web I've been able to download. I'm still hoping for DC Direct to reissue their porcelain mask again. ($1000 is just too much to pay for it on Ebay.) It'd go wonderfully with my Phantom porcelain mask collection. emoticon

Re: For The Love Of V

It's waning, thank God. Gees, when the movie was showing in the theaters, I could think of nothing but when the next show was. The movie, the soundtrack and V's voice were constantly playing inside my head.
I went to sleep thinking of V and woke up the same way. I played Getz/Gilberto album when I was cooking.
I couln't pick up a knife without getting a little thrill. Honestly, I've never had such an extreme reaction to a movie or TV series before in my life!
Now, it's just sort of a theme running through my life. I think of V when I'm idle or driving. It's not intruding into my thoughts anymore.
But I have one great fear. That I will see V in the flesh in real life. And then what? Will my obsession be fired up again?
This Halloween (and maybe even Guy Fawkes Day) with all the V suits being sold on Ebay, you can be sure that there will be V's walking around somewhere.
Any reasonably fit, tall guy would make a convincing V. Whether it's Weaving, Purefoy or Leitch, they're all V, right?
Hopefully, a real life V won't be very convincing and I can lay this obsession to rest once and for all.

DD, I had to laugh at your post, esp. the part about the Halloween V. But seeing that the image of the man is so deeply embedded my psyche, I think I would probably get some reaction too seeing someone with the same body type and posturing donning the V costume.

My feelings on the whole V thing is similar to yours. What is interesting is I am sort of going through a grieving process over the dimishing of V in my life. I miss the initial excitement back in March followed by the months anticipating the DVD release. Is this weird - to grieve? And yet, I still feel V's message of "no fear" growing stronger in me. emoticon

Gee, Vienna, it's interesting that you mention grieving. I was wondering whether I (as well as many members on this board) were experiencing something like grief. People are constantly speculating about what if V had lived and even writing fiction about it. That's something I constantly did when a loved one died a few years ago.

Me too. In some ways this movie has helped me to face several issues that I had been avoiding because of unreasonable fears.
It seems that the movie has been designed so that the viewer identifies with Evey more than any other character. Maybe that's why women seem to love this movie more than men do. Maybe our identification with Evey has been kind of exaggerated. Maybe we actually feel what she would have felt, not just consciously, but on a subconscious level as well.

i'm glad i'm not the only one who gets strength from V. I do a huge halloween set up every year and give out candy If V shows up i will faint, then give him all my candy! emoticon
i have no desire to buy V themed stuff, at least right now. Who knows in the future? but i still swoon when i see his pic and i play bits from the movie over in my mind all the time.

I, too, play parts of the movie over and over in my head. But, hey, I saw V4V for the first time only a handful of weeks ago. It seems like every time I return to this forum, I'm more intrigued by the movie. I can abstain from quoting the movie now. My boyfriend is very relieved. But I still find myself wanting to talk about it.

This is the most I've ever obsessed over a movie - or anything, for that matter. This is the first time I've ever bought movie stuff: mask and wig, the gn, the T-shirt...
