Cyg, I received your e-mail this morning.

Just in case you were thinking of posting the link here, know that petitions based on lies are not welcome here.

Opinions are fine.

Lies are not.

No, I thought of doing no such thing. Give me more credit than that. By the way, my intent was not to offend. Clearly, you took my responses the wrong way.

I was going to post a response but after reading Dr. D.'s I don't have to, she said it better than I could.

I would personally much prefer to be told the truth, no matter how much it hurts. (Hmm...who was it that asked, "Would you prefer a lie, or the truth?")

I know we are in deep doo-doo and I think the current administration might be taking the right first steps to finding a way OUT of it rather than burying their heads in the sand - or keeping ours there maybe - by holding it up in the light and making us all take a good hard look. Maybe there's no way out of the mess we're in but ignoring it sure ain't gonna fix it. The only way out is through, as the saying goes. We're all going to get some on us before it's over I'm afraid. emoticon

I dunno if anyone wants to read yet another article about the financial meltdown but I was sent this link earlier today and found it to be one of the most enjoyable reads on the subject I've seen. It's from the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. It's also very long, but you might find it interesting. I enjoyed it probably at least partly because they like to call it like they see it :) And, it explains a bit of the mechanics of what went on in terms us amoeba brained non-Wallstreetoids can comprehend.

God, this is scary! But I know how this story is going to end. Some poor soul who's lost everything in this financial mess is going to show up at Joe Cassano's door and "waste" him in the most painful way imaginable.

How ARE the people going to take back the government. How much pain can this country take before it finally realizes where the pain is coming from?

Even if they do clean up the mess and crazy hedge funds buy up these "toxic assets" you know what they are going to do with them? They will package them into mutual funds that I'm sure will find their way into pension funds and 401K's. Now they can more efficiently rape the American worker.

Funny, the same thing ran through my mind yesterday. And last night I was sort of contemplating the whole mess, I suddenly thought of the French Revolution, how people reached a breaking point and revolted against the haughty upper class and just plain killed them all. I don't think anything like that could happen here, today, but then I really thought..what if? I'm sure "they" think, as do I, that they have the law on their side, well it is of course, and the military...that no rabble could rise up and overpower the power structure here. But then again..the people in uniform are just "slobs like us," too. Who the hell knows what could happen if the whole house of cards collapses. Very very scary situation going on in the world right now. I think we all got a dose of that ancient Chinese curse, 'may you live in interesting times..'

And we need to make a clean break from that whole way of thinking but it doesn't look like we are emoticon

Long have I dreamt of revolution, and now, when it may come, I find I must oppose it. Look for me guarding the door of City Hall with my ridiculous body, telling the mob they shall not pass. The worst are rising; survivalists, flat-earthers, knuckleheads, Dominationists, Restorationists, mercenary wannabes, the angry, who think they have a divine right to rule and punish. Against that will i defend city and state, not because they are good, but because they are better.

Alas Cygnus, you have listened to unreliable people. All political knowledge ultimately depends on choosing whom to trust, whose selection of facts and interpretations gets you closest to the truth. For me, Obama and his people are on the trustworthy end of the range of political discourse and policy - I hope he and they can pull us out of this nose dive. A crash we survive may look blameworthy, but perhaps all that can be achieved avoiding a crash that we don't.
