Bush-era interrogation memos

The White House releases memos giving CIA agents the all-clear for the "extreme interrogation" of terror suspects.

I've read some of the first memo entitled "Memorandum for John Rizzo, Acting General Counsel, CIA from Jay Bybee, Assistant Attorney General, 1 Aug 2002" and the methods described makes me emoticon

Obama has said that agents who used the techniques on suspects would not face punishment - they were just following orders...

...I wish I didn't know about the Milgram study...if I didn't, I'd agree that "following orders" is no excuse. Sadly, it's human nature to follow orders, even if they are horrific... emoticon emoticon

That having been said, what happened was disgusting and should have never happened. I am truly disgusted, especially because I intend to work for the government after college and/or law school and/or grad school.

*nods* I thought of that myself. I just forgot the name of the study.

It's a bit similar to bystander apathy - it's also human nature not to help, say, an assault victim if there are others around. We tend to figure someone else will take care of it.

Everytime I read about things like this, a qoute from Terminator 2 comes to my mind, The Terminator said: "It's in your nature to destroy yourselves" - it's not completely wrong and that makes me sad.
