Re: Vinspiration
This is a painting I did at the time my mother died in 1992. It was inspired by the big fire that year at Winsor Castle, and was a deliberate quotation of Turner's 1834"Burning of the houses of Lords & Commons" . In this particular version, I loved the crowds of people in the eerie light along the bank.
I saw my mother's dreadful cancer death (smoking induced lung cancer) as a great ediface dissolving in disasterous flames, consumed from within. It was an event that rocked our world. The helpless family keeps vigil in the tower to the right. The temple in the rear keeps the flame burning, and survives the blaze, in fact, contains the sacred fire. For some reason, the souls are running INTO the fire.
After I had such an intense reaction to V4V, I was troubled that I cheered so heartily for the exploding Parliament, I remembered the Turner picture that I loved so as a young artist, and I pulled this picture out of storage. Now I see it as much more than just catharsis of grief.
The V story is just another chapter in my mythology.

Re: Vinspiration
I love this painting! It's gorgeous. Do my eyes deceive me, or are there significant van Gogh influences in there?

Re: Vinspiration
Ven, love the fire pic. My condolences for your mother. Mine has to date battled two cancers (breast and colon) and I consider myself lucky that I haven't yet lost her - I still need her in my life.

Bravo the art effort, inspired by revolutionary art.

Re: Vinspiration
quote: Ven's Painting

Ven, I enjoy all kinds of paintings although I am not a painter. I like this painting a lot because it projects a great deal of emotions through the color choices, the brush stokes, the active diagonal composition and the different planes which give the depth. I especially like the part you kept some area abstract… such as the figures in the lower center that evokes my imagination going.... .. In my opinion your painting projects your feeling so well, and I felt what you went through... You are a really good painter.
I can’t wait to see V’s portrait painting (completed)… keep us posted….
