Abbreviations, Emoticons, etc.
We're all fairly web-savvy people, here, obviously, but I still thought this topic might come in handy. And I'd like to start the ball rolling by asking:
What is ZOMG? OMG is Ohmigod, I know (or maybe it's not in this case) - what's the Z stand for?

pwned, by Chakram
Regarding the term "pwned," by Chakram
quote: Chakram wrote:
There are several possible definitions but basically it's a deliberate misspelling of the word "owned". You might substitute 'dominates' or the like in the sentence. Like if someone gives a particularly scathing reply to So-and-so on a message board, a poster might comment "So-and-so got pwned!" There's other ways of using it. You might want to check out Urban Dictionary for more info (though be prepared to wade through a lot of dross).

Re: Abbreviations, Emoticons, etc.
Is there a way I can get hide the "Clickable Smilies" wehn I'm writing a response? I find them really distracting.

Re: Abbreviations, Emoticons, etc.
I'm not sure.... I'll have to poke around (unless someone beats me to it).
But I do know that if you click on one of the smilies, they'll stop animating. (I assume it's the animation that's distracting you.) At least, they do whenever I click on them. Then you just have to delete the code so it doesn't appear in your post - unless you want it to.
The code for a smilie is a number between two colons: :#:

Re: Abbreviations, Emoticons, etc.
:59:
well, I've been researching this... The smilies are a board-level feature, and apparently the window cannot be disable by the user, at least not readily.
i suspect there is some programming that a power user could do in css, but this is a' moment over my head.
There is a "use emoticons" click box below the reply message box, but it doesnt appear to diable the little bouncing buggers.
Lo tech solution? .... resize your browser window and drag the message box to the left, so that smilies are not visible. that works fine.

Re: Abbreviations, Emoticons, etc.
IIRC = "If I Recall Correctly"
FWIW = "For What It's Worth"
(Anyone have an abbreviation definition? Or is there one that's stumping you?)
I still haven't gotten a definition for ZOMG...

Re: Abbreviations, Emoticons, etc.
There's a nice article at Answers.com about ZOMG.
I especially like this possible explanation: "It is most likely representative of carelessly pressing the left shift key to capitalize "OMG" and hitting the adjacent "Z" key in the process."
