Boy dissapear down the rabbit hole for a month and come back and wade though things and find this...

In an attempt to prevent a tempest in a teacup....

I don't understand the impetus to wish to move. If it is not in fact broken, don't fix it. If it was broken and someone is fixing it/has fixed it, don't fix it any more.

I've created web sites and stuff before. Large undertakings. To replicate a website, the look of one, even if it's one you made, is an even bigger undertaking and not without opportunity for mis-step.

It seems to me, somewhat backwards in the execution. Ina field of dreams way, if you build it they will come sort of expectation.

I've done enough software over the years and frequently if you build it, they won't care and if you keep trying make them care, they'll bugger you with a hedgehog for trying. Getting customer buy in is important before you go and attempt to sell them a new ice maker. Even if it makes superior round ice, or ice that melts at half the speed, they're rather attached to the ice the way it is.

Looks to me hosting things at runboard is currently working fine. Issues are being addressed from the look, and stability is being addressed.

I like it where it is. I like the runboard favorites things cuz there's been a couple three other forums on here that I like. It's easy for me to get here via logging in there. I have a value added proposition with it staying here as this is not the only forum on runboard that I look at. It's the only one where I open my yap tho.

It's fine where it is. I'm a peon on here and I say so.

I've run many websites. With forums, galleries, media files.. the whole lot.

I won't do it anymore, even though I enjoyed an exceptionally high level of success. We're talking television coverage and being featured in magazines. Ah, I digress.

Being new here hardly qualifies me to voice an opinion. However, I feel the need to share.

I really see nothing unpleasant about staying right here. I love the color scheme (my sites are usually done in black). I love the new friends I've made. I'm happy they accepted me 'into their home' emoticon

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to reply so far, although there are still many members here who we'd like to hear from as every opinion matters.

I also would like to thank Vadin for initially creating this board and giving us the building structure which we, as a community, made into a home.
But that's the thing - we have made it into a home. It may be flawed but it's familiar, comfortable, and something we forged together.

I'm sure there would be benefits from a new location, but everyone seems so settled here.
I have to agree with what the Admiral said: if it's not broke, don't fix it. Speaking only for myself, I don't see the need to move - and at least at this point in time, I don't wish to.

Um, I know I'm not an admin or moderator, but as a member it would be nice if we could vote on this. Perhaps each side could spell out the pros/cons and we, as members can decide? Personally, I'd like to see a board that is more user-friendly (like inserting emoticons at the point of the cursor instead of the bottom on the page). Although, this board is okay too.

If it was up to me, I'd move it to Usenet, except the only problem there is one gets a lot of spam and you can't edit your post (it's also not as "pretty"). But you can killfile people that irritate you (although that's not too much of a problem here) and you can filter immediately responses to your posts instead of trying to remember which thread you posted in or get flooded with e-mails that someone has responded to your post.

Some food for thought.... emoticon

*nods* That used to be a gripe of mine, too, until I realized - if you hover your mouse cursor over the emote you want to use, the "code" for it is displayed in the bottom status bar of the browser - it should say "javascript:clickicon(': V :');", for example.

Then, it's just a matter of typing that code into your post - i.e. you want to use the emoticon in your post, so you type ": V :" in the right spot (without the spaces or quotation marks).

I would venture to say that this is one of the nicest boards I've ever frequented - and not just because of the people. emoticon - because of the setup, style, search (though limited) function.... my only gripe is I wish it were nested, but I've adapted to this format, too.... as long as people use the Quote function so I know what they're responding to. emoticon

Well, yeah, I figured that out, but thank you anyway. But when I put my cursor over the emoticons, it just says "posticon." Nonetheless I still think typing in code is still a hassle.

I also dislike having to type in quote tags as well, since they too go to the bottom of the page.

Yes! Nesting would be so much easier! I also wish there were filters, but I guess I am asking for too much.

Vadin emoticon Please do not underestimate our appreciation of what you have done for this board. You concieved it and can easily see the practicality of moving to our own URL. We on the other hand, most of us being female, (Im not being sexist here but we are just wired differently), have nurtured this board, put up curtains so to speak and made it their home. A house is a house you may say, but the emotional bond that has been built by many of us to this house - our own shadow gallery - cannot easily be broken. We are not ready to move. Eventually we will see as you see, and feel as you feel, and together we can move to www.lotsh.com, but now, we are not ready to move house, not just yet. We will just visit often, stay for a chat, then go home, eventually we just might put up our feet and stay - if we are still welcome.

p.s. why isn't my signature working???

I'm staying here until I'm told that we're moving emoticon I like the setup and the style of this board.

It's true Vadin, you did create it - and we thank you for that - but we have made it our home and feel comfortable here.

There are of course things that could be better, the search function for example - it's probably the worst search function I've ever seen.
As Vienna, I'd also like to be able to insert emoticons at the point of the cursor - but I've gotten used to writing the code for them instead.

This is the first forum I've joined, so I don't miss the nesting function.

I like how the admins and mods performs their duties - there's not much shouting involved - what a relief! emoticon

Oops, it's almost time for the Runboard back-up black hole, I'll better stop emoticon'ing emoticon
