(No offense to the truly Christian Christians in our midst. As a Presbyterian PK, I grew up with the kind of hypocrisy that group is demonstrating and quickly got sick of it. My parents, thank god, are sane Christians, but some members of their congregations were.... not.)

Because they're not Christians. True Christians, in my book, believing in LOVING thy neighbor, not condemning them.
They are in the same class of Idiot as the "born again" Idiot who brought a friend of mine to tears by telling her that her beloved grandfather (a man she would have killed for or died for) was in hell. His reasoning for that judgment call?
My friend (and her grandfather) were Jewish.
This judgment call was made by a 'Netizen who didn't know my friend, never met her, knew nothing about her or her grandfather, what they were like, whether they were good people or not.
He just parroted whatever "Christian" mouthpiece told him that anyone who is not "Christian" (read: their kind of Christian) automatically goes to hell.
Yup.
That sounds like a loving God, all right. Let me line up to worship their God.
......sorry. Am I ranting? 
(This is partly misplaced ranting energy that I can't expend on the people who deserve it, because I'd only make the situation worse. *hugs KittyRoomie*)

Well, I hesitate to call people not-Christians, figuring it's not my call, but in my own view, they're certainly not acting like Christians! 
MK: You're right, and their behavior is stupidity also because it's totally missing the Christian message. "Let he who is without sin throw the first stone" - but *nobody* is without sin, from a Christian viewpoint. It's a human condition. And maybe these judgmental people are forgetting that, also from a Christian viewpoint, Christ died for us to gain forgiveness from our sins. I want to shake them and say "that's the message of the Crucifixion, people!" *grr* I'm not calling Ledger's legacy sinful, but that's the way they choose to frame it...
So, it is NOT these people's job or right to judge or condemn anyone. I also had a Christian in college tell me that my Jewish friends would not be "saved." I was quite upset. That's not the religion I was brought up in - or practice. And I'm not the only Christian who believes in tolerance and not making judgments that are only God's to make!
