Seizure redux

If I have another seizure I'm going to fall over twitching and growling. Oh, wait, that's what I DO when I have a seizure.

I just got out of the hospital for a grand mal seizure on Thursday. Nobody can figure out why I'm having these seizures, and I'm back on medication. Right now my mind is racing and I'm lonely! emoticon

Re: Seizure redux

Thanks, everyone. It's just scary - we have no idea what is causing these. The doctors thought it was a reaction to a certain medication but apparently that's not the case. I weaned off seizure medication and ended up with another seizure.

It's just, I hope this medication doesn't affect me as badly as the last one so I can work effectively again. I want to work again!!!!!

This morning I'm running mild fevers but I actually feel pretty good overall. The hospital wants to rule out Lyme disease, which can cause all sorts of crazy things. They did a lumbar puncture spinal tap - ouch. Actually this one wasn't very bad; the only real pain was putting in the analgesic. It's the first tap I've had with pain killer (and they gave me Ativan too, which helps), so that made it more tolerable.

This is almost funny: I was so out of it when they first brought me to the hospital, they did an initial MRI, and I have no memory of it. If anyone has had an MRI, you know how LOUD they are.

Apparently the hot spot for the seizure was the right front temporal lobe. I have no idea what that might mean.

Anyway, I just want answers. My parents (who are my sanity savers in all this) have talked about bringing me to Johns Hopkins for a 2nd (more than 2nd) opinion, but we'll see what the doctors do here first.

Anyway, all good thoughts and prayers are appreciated. I know I'm never alone with the Vixens around!! emoticon

Actually it was the least painful tap I've ever had - these folks are good.

And thank you for those thoughts and prayers! emoticon

Re: Seizure redux

All the taps I can remember (there were a few for which I was out from seizure for and don't remember) were very painful, but this one wasn't too excruciating. I'm getting a complimentary letter to this hospital out, sometime this week.

My temperature is down a bit, which is good, but I'm still coughing a blue streak. One of the doctors brought in a virus and I think he's the one who got me sick, unless I had this prior and it's what brought on the seizure. Infection can do that.

Either way, whether he got me sick or not, it's just SO polite to bring illness into a hospital! This guy was so rude - Mom and Dad act as medical advocates for me in these situations, and Dad tried to ask him a question about the recent MRI I had. He put up his hand in a definite "talk to the hand" gesture and said "don't let me interrupt, but..." Dad wanted to say "you just did." The guy said "I have 35 other patients." Dad wanted to say "and you're getting paid for each of them." Dad's considering writing a letter; my general practitioner, who was more than happy to spend time on the phone with me yesterday, noted that this guy makes life miserable for people at the hospital, and that a letter *could* have some good effect.

Oh. In addition, the guy down the hall who was isolated and masked due to MRSA freaked me out a bit, but we had no contact; I just saw him once. MRSA isn't very airborne, but they were requiring masks and gloves for him and all visitors.

Hospital acquired infection. You gotta love it. But this isn't MRSA, just a bad virus and fever. emoticon
