Uh, like I wrote -- I don't see anything concrete, EXCEPT the flash forward scene and only because it is written in the book. Even then, this doesn't necessarily mean that they have an intimate relationship (as I defined earlier), but it's obvious they do have SOME type of relationship (there are many different types of relationships out there nowadays and gods know what it would be like in 2037 or whenever the movie ends). However, most viewers are probably not going to read this book and will interpret the scene their own way, if they even notice it (it took me a coulple viewings to even notice the scene). Personally, at times like this I do like go back to the source material, that of the GN and use this as what was originally intended.
The point is, at least to me, is that Evey overcame her oppressing fear and advanced onto becoming an independent and purpose-driven woman. Whether she has a relationship with Finch or anyone else is irrelevant to me and isn't the message I take away from her role in the movie. The same goes for Finch, who, btw, is my favorite character.
I say potato, you say patato....Speaking on my behalf only, I lay this topic to rest.

Re: The Finch Character Discussion Thread
I just watched the Crying Game, for the first time in years, and I am, crying!
It's so poingnant and tender and fraught with emotional peril... and I am in love with Fergus and Dil.
I see tiny bits of Finch mannerisms in Rea's performance.
In particular, the way he says "No - o - o " in the scene where he is just about to cut Dil's hair. Its the same "No-o-o" he uses when Dominic asks him if his angst is about the terrorist, in the scene where Dom asks him "What's wrong, chief?"
anyway, what a lovely and powerful movie. the DVD has an alternate ending, that the studio strongly suggested to make it "happier" ( ) that is really cheesey!
Personally, I like the ending just fine. Its clear they love each other, and Finch, er I mean Fergus, doesnt have to magically become an enthusiastic queer just so they can live happily ever after. His bittersweet conflict is one of the things that make the story so powerful.
ten thumbs up - put it on your rental list!

Venturous, I agree whole heartedly, this is a FABulous movie. And I am glad to be warned about the alternate ending. Loved it just the way it was in the theatre and video. Great acting by Stephen and J. Davidson!

Re: The Finch Character Discussion Thread
Gosh, I haven't seen that movie in ages, but I really liked it enough to buy the soundtrack back then. I think this what the first Rea movie I saw, also the same for Forrest Whitaker. Both are great actors. *V7 is thinking she still has "Last King of Scotland" on her movie to-watch list*
The one thing I remember very well in that movie was the Aesop fable The Scorpion and the Frog.
Ven, you just reminded me to rent this film again. Thanks!

Re: The Finch Character Discussion Thread
Seeing Stephen Rea in V prompted me also to rewatch The Crying Game, a great movie. Stephen Rea has always had a great relationship with Neil Jordon the director - let us not forget his brief but excellent performance in 'Interview with the vampire'. Has anyone seen 'Angel'? think it was Neil Jordon's first film and possibly Stephen Rea's too - He's very young in it and very fanciable!

I also rewatched this one not long ago; I'd forgotten all about my favourite line...just after Dil has visited the building site, and Fergus's slimy boss passes a rude remark about her. Fergus asks him, "Have you ever tried to pick up your teeth with broken fingers?"

Re: The Finch Character Discussion Thread
*bump*
After all, PWSull and those who agree with him seem to have been right.
The flashforward of Evey in a very intimate setting [otherwise he would not sit like that while she stood] is among the images of Finch's prophetic montage. Much of what he sees is known to us to be 'true' in the movie, though he has no natural access to it. Therefore, it is supernatural in the story. None of it is verifiably false. [though apparently they did not hang Fawkes in RL].
He believes the feeling; he saw tracks, and he takes a risk on it in preparing a report for Sutler describing a train delivery of the explosives.
intercut with this is V and his dominoes; we have wondered about his expression as he regards the last, unfallen piece. If it's Evey, he's considering her fate, and, if he's the supernatural power creating the pattern Finch glimpses, he's working it out right then; she has surprised him, as has happened in RL between certain women and the deity.
So in some sense Finch is seeing into V's thoughts. He catches a flash of her outcome because V is making provision for her after his death. The visual connection is made as she finds the domino, unaware of its history.
But maybe some of the shots of V and the dominos were Finch's experience; maybe he saw the dominoes fall. That would be deeper and stranger, but also fit with his later actions.
Work with play the happy differentiation!
