HA HA! My friend once said that scene with Smith's evil laugh was the only problem he had with the character in any of the movies.

Re: Agent Smith fans?
I cannot believe I'm joining in, but there it is. Rewatched the Matrix movies last week, and had these observations:
Fishbourne comes across like a corpse.
Reeves is actually not bad, especially in the last few of his scenes with Trinity. The death of Trinity parallels the death of V. HW is just a lot of fun to watch being bad, and moving to an upsetting degree when Smith gets into trouble; the best thing in it.
Everyone has sunglasses, but somehow HW gives a shock every time he takes them off. What I was expecting, I can't say, and I suppose I know now, but the hindbrain gets a shock [not totally unpleasant...] from that glare every time. No one else's sunglasses were at all memorable, on, off, or in transition.
Trivia I found: Smith has a licence plate IS 5416; if you look up Isaiah 54:16 in the King James you get a zinger -- "Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy."
Query: in the story, are we to assume that he put it there?
I'd say I'm turning into an otaku [Veeks are a specific case of otaku], except the hardcore otaku would laugh.
Work with play the happy differentiation!

Re: Agent Smith fans?
Dear CyranoRox,
(For some reason, I'm having problems inserting quotes tonight, so I'll just allude to some of your thoughts.)
Wow, the thing about Hugo's eyes IS weird. I guess part of the shock is the strangeness of his physical appearance, part is his way of looking at people, and also there is a strange vulnerability in those eyes that is unexpected. You kind of think that he would have very non-descript, but piercing eyes, like any all-American bully, but those eyes are unexpectedly exotic. Kind of "hooded," and strangely tired.
Where did you find out about the licence plate? Did you just notice that it was a biblical quote?
And please forgive my ignorance but what is an otaku?
Lastly, I did not think Fishburne was at all boring. I think his monologue on the fate of the planet and the rise of the machines was truly chilling. It was that speech that got me to watch this movie over and over again. Everytime I see those acres of sleeping bodies in their watery pods with Fishburne's narration, I get chills up my spine, mostly because its a metaphor for working in the corporate, post-inustrial world but also because of the bleak imagery.
I really love the interaction between Weaving and Fishburne near the end of the first "Matrix" movie. I can't help imagining what an Othello and Iago those two would make!

Re: Agent Smith fans?
I reckon it's the fact that they purposely made Smith seem very...agent-like lol you know, the suit, clean cut, monotone voice etc etc..and when the sunnies come off, yeah, his eyes are something different and you're instantly drawn to them. I think that's another thing that makes him more special that the other agents
BTW, I remember hearing that trivia, it's really weird, isn't it?

Re: Agent Smith fans?
Dr D, the licence plate thing is from Wikipedia, somewhere in the Matrix entries. Have to agree to disagree; LF is just charmless to me. Imagine if that role were done with some of the erotic force of V. It's not about ethnicity: 'Tank' sparkles and the guy with the silver chain and wife is fun.
BTW, play a clip of Carl Sagan if you can. Now imagine Smith saying 'billions and biliions'- a match, for sure.

Re: Agent Smith fans?
This SORTA has something to do with Smith, which I found on Wikipedia that's quite funny:
quote: During the shooting of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Peter Jackson and Hugo Weaving made a practical joke: filming the scene where Elrond (Weaving) gives the sword Anduril to Aragorn, Weaving was dressed as Agent Smith and spoke: "Mr. Anderson! What are you doing with this sword?"
LOL I wish I was there to see that! But apparently there is another side of the story:
quote: Hugo Weaving pulls a prank on the set of Return of the King during reshoots:
Some of my lowly Kiwi spies have informed me that Viggo Mortensen made up in Aragorn's scruffy unkept beard filmed a scene a few days ago with Hugo/Elrond aka Mr. Smith for THE RETURN OF THE KING. It was a scene where Elrond comes into Aragorn's tent wearing a hooded cape that kept his face hidden in darkness. Jackson shot the scene a dozen times at least. In this scene Hugo slowly and with a certain amount of drama removes the hood from his face to seriously talk with Viggo. Due to various reasons Hugo kept blowing his lines, so Peter shot it over and over. Finally the Director called for the insurance, or Champagne shot, and they ran thru it all for one final take with Elrond stepping into the scene face hidden from the view of all in attendance, buuuuuut this time when he slowly exposes his face he had on a pair of his patented "Mr. Smith" sunglasses and says something along the line of, "Join with the MATRIX, Mr. Aragorn" in his best deadpan delivery. Mr. Jackson then called for the scene wrap.

Either way, it must've been hilarious

I've only seen one blooper on Youtube, where Viggo says a certain line which sounded really 'wrong' and everyone, specifically Bernard Hill (Theoden), who Viggo was saying the line to, started laughing.
Here it is if you want to see it!
I found another interesting LOTR vid. Hugo's in it a couple times, and there's a serious "WHOA!" moment with a horse near the beginning.
