Ah, true that. And that is part of being an artist, after all

Re: V's Emotions
It is, indeed.
I have been a free lance magazine writer for some years now, and currently have queries out on two novels. I write fanfic as a means of honing my craft, a way of practicing and trying out styles, themes, techniques.
I have been told I have a very cinematic writing style, and those who say this are quite perceptive, because when I write, I am seeing a film projected on my mind's eye, and simply writing down what I see. The greatest compliments I have ever gotten on my fan fiction have come from several people when they said, "I could hear the character's voice when I read the dialogue," or "picture the character doing that," that sort of thing.
I have worked in theatre (amateur, semi-pro, pro) and some video, and am aware of the requirements of the media. I don't claim to be any sort of expert or master of any of the theatrical/cinematic arts, but like Salieri, I recognize the gift of a Wolfgang Amadeus when I see one.
Translated: there's serious talent going down in V4V.

Re: V's Emotions
Are you the Valkyrie that posts on Vigilante? If so, I love your work. The "Fun With V and Evey" series is alternately fun and chilling. I think you've got a great talent, I hope you'll let us know when your novels get published

Re: V's Emotions
I am the Valkyrie that posts on Vigilante, yes, but "Fun with V and Evey" is not my work, it is somebody Valentine, and yes it is very good.
I currently have a fic going called Vindication, and am working on one called Variations which I will begin posting once my beta finishes with the first little bit.
Yes, I will let you know when my novels are published if you like. (Hoping the editors LIKE them.)

Re: V's Emotions
Blagh! Now I've embarassed myself
I've also read "Vindication", though, if that repairs things! And it's lovely as well. In fact, I had the two of you mixed up because your usernames were similar, so I sort of thought the same person did them both. *slaps self*
I think everybody brings a different thing into their story, and you brought a very wise Evey into yours. I love how in control of herself she is, like she's learned the lesson even better than V meant her to.

Re: V's Emotions
Thank you very much, and that's quite all right about the mixup. I've done that to a couple of the writers myself, and as I like the other author's work you mentioned, I'm flattered.
One of the things I am enjoying doing in my Viction (and here is the tie back to this thread's topic! I'm brilliant! LOL) is exploring V's emotions -- his confidence, his uncertainties, his motivations and drives -- by means of the people with whom he interacts, using them as mirrors to reflect the man within. I've been told I bring a very adult (and not in the sexual sense) characterization to the stories. That pleases me. I think of myself as a 6 year old with 40 years of experience, and I guess it's good to know I picked up something of wisdom and human nature along the way.
In some ways, I find myself relating to V, much more strongly than with Evey. I spend much more of my writing inside his head than hers, because I think I understand how HE thinks. He would be someone I could call a "kindred spirit," I believe, with a love of knowledge, art, and literature, and the ability to discuss it in depth for hours. I might even be able to teach him a thing or two about astronomy and rocket science, while he could advance my martial arts training...ah well.
And yes, with my characterization of Evey, it was a case of "be careful what you wish for, V, you might just get it. In spades."
I just put up a new chapter of it today, which actually consists of another chance for V to teach Evey, however. So far it seems to be going over well with the reviews.
I had the story beta'ed just to make sure I stayed true to the characters, and she indicated I managed it pretty successfully, so I hope everyone likes it.
Vindication is actually finished, I just am still editing in the beta comments, so taking my time posting it. The next chapter to go up, things will get...steamy.
Now Variations I'm still working on. It is a completely AU, postulating who might have shown up if Evey hadn't, and what direction things might have taken. And yes, I do have "Valkyrie" majorly appear in that one! What the heck is fanfic for, if not to have a little fun?
Variations is going rather interestingly, as the characters keep surprising me by doing and saying things I don't expect. I swear it's like the characters are whispering over my shoulder, telling me what to type. And if I don't put down what V says...he gets miffed. I swear.
Just tonight, they went off into the wild blue yonder with me, and I'm trying to figure out how to bring the storyline back around...
*sigh*
I've been in the V-verse too long, haven't I...?

Tell me about it! I have my replica mask hung on the corner of the bookcase, right above the computer desk. I'm under scrutiny as I write. It's helpful in the main, but I frequently get the distinct impression that all I'm doing is transcribing...

I love that feeling! Most of my best writing has come out of that feeling. The moments when the words take over and it's all I can do to type them before they fade into the ether. My Highlander fanfic had many periods of that - I swear I felt Methos's hand on my shoulder and his breath tickling my ear as I typed down his words.
I also have a set of characters that have periods of hibernation - when my life is crazy, they're pretty quiet. But when I have a time of stability, they roar back in full voice, nagging me about when I'm going to write their story. They're the first group to do that; every group before just disappeared on their first fade-out.

You have a replica mask? *whimper* I am so jealous... :(
I only have the shade of V to keep me company...talking in my ear, telling me what he's saying in my fanfics...he never appears in person...
Oh, dear Lord. I AM going insane, aren't I?
Or maybe I'm just being a true writer. All artists are a little bit crazy, you know?

Oh, dear. Then I probably shouldn't tell you that the first thing I did, when it arrived, was to step into Evey's shoes and kiss it, long and lingering?
You can get one here, if you like, they're very cheap, but still good quality plastic:
