That coincidence-that-isn't, between V and Gordon? What are your thoughts on it? As far as the same greeting for Evey that they have, of the "Bonjour, Madamoiselle!" and the eggy-in-the-basket?

I watched the film again last night and had some thoughts on this topic. It has always intrigued me too.

We are taught in the film that 'There are no coincidences, only the illusion etc..' Therefore we have to rule out that the connections between Gordon and V are a coincidence.

When I first saw the film I thought that perhaps Gordon was like V's alter ego, and was hoping that this would be confirmed when reading the GN. However, the GN presents Gordon as a very different chararcter and the 'coincidences' do not exist. Larry and Andy must have had motive for changing the story this way for the film.

I believe that Gordon represents all the people that could potentially be V. As someone who has been wronged by the government and is living in fear of being himself, Gordon could just have easily turned into the Freedom fighter that saves us all. When we see Gordon's response when he first sees V's speech on the TV, it clearly strikes a real cord with him, he then goes on to make a highly provacative TV show to imply that Sutler is the real terrorist.

The constant shots in the film of the general public in front of their Tv sets, I think is to remind us that the people actually already know 'There is something very wrong with this country' They just needed to be reminded that collectively they could do something about it. 'With enough people an idea can change the world.'

My two cents. emoticon

Also, V and Gordon had to have been in some correspondence for V to be aware when Creedy's men were raiding his house?

There is a much simpler explanation - V followed Evey (or deduced where she'd run), and kept watch over the house. That much is alluded to in the movie novelization.

Anna, which pictures? Do you mean the black and white pics? If that is what you mean, they are erotic pictures of two men.

They could have been, although I consider I'm fairly familiar with Mapplethorpe's work, yet none of those photos rang a bell. For the sake of saving money on royalty fees, it would have been far better for the graphics team to simply create their own photos.
