A sad little image..
I was just listening to Cat Power's 'I found a reason' (arguably not the cheeriest song ever) and could suddenly imagine V sat in his beautiful chambers surrounded by paintings and exquisite works of art, listening to that song at night over and over again, for years, alone.
A bittersweet thing.

Now I'm not sure if that image or the one I normally get with that song is worse.... I can't get over how appropriate the lyrics are to the scene. When I hear it, I imagine that the first/third section is Evey thinking about V, and the second/fourth section is V silently begging Evey...

I think of the first/third parts as being V listening to his inner voice; or the 'man' behind the mask listening to the voice of the V spirit itself (if that makes sense); the voice that says what must be done, and how, and why. The voice that says despite all the hurt and damage, a better world will come of it if he does what 'must' be done.
Oh but it is still a very sad picture.
Maybe this character type is the male equivalent of the Sleeping Beauty; the person imprisoned beyond the reach of normal mortals (not by a tower, in their case, but something darker and emotional) waiting for a human touch that will bring them back to life, if only for a brief moment.
If Sleeping Beauty had the same ending as V (or Phantom of the Opera/ Dracula/ Labyrinth etc) then she'd open her eyes after the kiss from the prince, smile sadly at the one who woke her and then gently crumble into the dust of a hundred years.

That does make sense... and for some reason I feel like the fact that it made sense should frighten me.

I think I may have realized why it made sense to me... Or at least, I remembered another, similar comment that made the same kind of sense...
In one of the animated Batman series (I think it was Batman Beyond), the guest character had a line something like, "I'd always imagined this 'Batman' to be an ancient spirit, inhabiting the greatest warrior of each generation..."
I think that line might be applied to V, as well... especially as, in the GN, Evey becomes the new V, does she not? Gotta get around to reading!!
