Yes I would eventually be able to forgive him. I would have pretty much acted like Evey when realizing what really happened and that V did it. But I would have been more violent. I would have cursed at him and told him to go to hell and then if he tried to touch me I would smack him away. But eventually give up and succumb to him. He is just too charming and very wise that I would have to agree with what he did, and get over my anger.

I could forgive V if what he did actually helped me like it did Evey. However, if I ended up scarred for life and worse than before, then no.

But he was so charming, I'm sure he would've figured out a way to get me to forgive..... emoticon

Well, I've tried to be true so far, so I'll try it for a bit longer.

No, I'd never forgive him. And, in fact, that part of the story upsets me a lot. What he did was far worse than torturing her (and btw, in the GN's much worse, I read it about 5 or 6 years ago and was left with no enfatuation with V at all), he betrayed her trust and her innocence. He protected her first only to abuse her later, and I don't buy the "It was to make her stronger" or "It was for her own good" type of argument. Torture's torture no matter how you look at it.

If I'd survived, I'd hate him with all my guts, to the point where hatred would have filled in all that was once good and kind in me. It'd have destroyed me instead of making me stronger or more sympathetic to his cause.

Betrayal and torture, you just can't get anything worse than that.

I can't understand why she would ever forgive him as well.
Kinda a warped vision of finding one's inner sense of freedom if you ask me. It's inhuman and monstrous to torture, no matter what the end result might be. That really can't be forgiven. I think love is much more powerful than hate or fear. Love can set you free, too. But since V only knew hatered, his only way to help Evey find true freedom was to imprison her and hurt her....
No, I could never forgive him. It's just too messed up.
He didn't even have an egg waiting for her when she walked out and realized it was him all along. emoticon Jerk.

Firstly, thank you all for answering!

I know it's a difficult question that I asked and like Bohwea said it's pretty much impossible to answer, but thank you all for trying! I love reading all of your thoughts on the subject. emoticon

Secondly, I am glad to know that there are others (actually, mostly everyone!) that feel it would be VERY difficult to forgive him if you could forgive him at all.

Ahh the thought-provoking questions, although they're interesting, they're always so hard to actually answer!

Bailey, it was a very good question, thank you.

And I agree with you, it was good to see that everyone gave it real thought and didn't rush into saying they'd forgive him, because without even trying to imagine the soul-crushing realities of torture it would be hollow to answer such a question.

xx

Well I know that if someone put me through that, not so much torture but to shave my head I would take a knife to him seriously Its a sad truth but I have really long hair and I take such pride in it that I would have hurt him and for the torture too. I cant even imagine what it was like, nor do I want to even know a glimpse but how could you forgive him, even tho he is V??

Jad, you are right. It is a very unconventional way to change somebody. I prefer other ways that involve no torture at all!

What we usually see in stories is the self-chosen-torture, if you will; education from a 'master' that is so rigorous and difficult that if seems like torture, but one you put yourself through voluntarily - like training for the SAS or Marines.

We saw that with in Star Wars with Yoda and Luke and even in the Karate kid.

I can't help but think that's the better way; yes - you could give up at any moment - but when you don't give up you know you made it by your own merits - and why you did it.
(We could also include further education in that chosen-torture catagory... emoticon )
