Speed and camera traps ...

Never leave home without it - your list that is. Better yet, burn it in your memory. IF you *know* where the SPEED TRAPS are, you don't have to worry about getting pulled over (if you know of speed traps in your area that aren't listed, you can add them). Then, of course - there are the RED LIGHT AND SPEED CAMERAS which happen to be even more prone to false readings than other, more conventional methods of nailing motorists - this website will tell you exactly how to get out of that ticket.

THIS website should be of interest to those of you with GPS - while THIS website will tell you exactly where the cameras are located in your area - just scroll down to find your city (if you're aware of a camera that's not listed ... ADD IT!).

I *know* that someone is bound to retort "if you weren't speeding blah blah blah ..." - if you are of that frame of mind ... you're dead wrong. These methods have been put in place to generate revenue for municipalities, NOT for the purpose of safety. Bearing this in mind - honestly, how often do you think the equipment is checked for proper calibration? I should know - my dad was a cop.

Good point, Cyg. The equipment has to be working perfectly, otherwise it's not fair, I can see that.

Cygnus X1 replied with: Well, for one ... I didn't say that *I* was the one speeding LOL!! You wouldn't believe how insane the drivers are in this state. Not to mention, if you're going ONE MILE PER HOUR OVER the stated speed limit - you're nailed by these things, which is ridiculous IMHO. If you don't have cruise control on your vehicle - WHO in their right mind is going to consistently keep an eye on the speed they are traveling at as opposed to actually KEEPING YOUR EYE ON ROAD/TRAFFIC CONDITIONS?! That, in itself can cause accidents - which is defeating the purpose.

Again, in regard to this state - the techs probably do *not* perform regular calibration checks. The cops here, when it comes to generating moolah for ... whatever, do NOT play fair.
