I am not surprised, but I am disappointed. Here are MY nominations, based on my totally subjective view of things:

BEST PICTURE -- three guesses emoticon

BEST DIRECTOR --James Mc Teigue

BEST ACTOR -- Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rey

BEST ACTRESS -- Helen Mirren (I didnt see the queen and I am sure she nailed it. )(sorry, Natalie. I love you, I really do...)

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Stephen Fry, Rupert Graves

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS -- Sinead Cusack

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE -- Dario Marinelli

BEST SOUND EDITING -- (alright, I havent memorized all the credits yet, but they deserve one! just think of the swish of those steel blades, or the "sh sh sh")

BEST COSTUMES -- see above

BEST MAKE-UP -- the mask maker!

BEST EFFECTS -- the pyrotechnicians and modelmakers

BEST SONG -- "Cry Me a River" Julie London

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY -- Adrian Biddle

BEST DOCUMENTARY -- An Inconvenient Truth.... wait, no, I think it should go to Rookwood for his Documentary 'Story' !

Oh Venturous, thank you for putting that into print! I so agree. I am disappointed that V4V got no nominations. But then I am the kind of person who usually does not see my vote win. I gave up on the Oscars. It's all about politics (Hollywood politics, at least, if not government politics) and who made the most money.

HW should get it, but it's too weird for the Academy to give an award for a masked performance. But imagine the acceptance speech .... in any of a dozen voices....

Actually, he's in the credits twice - as V, and as Rookwood.
I picture him accepting it as if for Rookwood, just for a lark. "Oh, the other role? Are you sure?"

I thought for sure there would be something as far as set design and costuming. I guess since it was based on a 'graphic novel' it would be shunned by the Academy because it frowns on such a medium for the most part.

 emoticon is always a winner in my book and doesn't need some anatomically incorrect statue to prove it. emoticon
