Re: V for Vendetta receives NO Oscar nominations!!!
Evertone knows the only movies nominated are usually ones that were released about a month before the nominations anyway. Or maybe a couple weeks.. Or even more common- Ones that haven't even been released yet.

Re: V for Vendetta receives NO Oscar nominations!!!
Strikes against V4V:
1) It stems from a graphic novel. Any SF/F very seldom get nods other than for special effects or music.
2) It stems from an OBSCURE graphic novel. If even a runaway hit like SPIDERMAN 2 can't get more than 3 nods, what hope does V4V have?
3) It doesn't star A-List American actors. Foreigners are only allowed if they do art-film stuff or fit to the American model of how actors are supposed to act.
4) The W-Brothers have already had their day in the sun. Same thing happened to M Night Shyamalan after Sixth Sense. No major nods. The Academy is oddly fair and unfair at the same time - nominating people for roles they don't deserve because they were missed in previous years for roles they DID deserve. It's weird and VERY political.
5) Hugo Weaving shared the role. To the casual eye, it's impossible to know which scenes he was in, not to mention that he didn't do his own stunts. (Which is the main reason Johnny Depp gets as much attention as he gets in POTC)
6) The originator of V4V has disowned the pic and refused to relent. INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE was nearly sunk when Anne Rice pitched a fit at the casting of Tom Cruise. It was saved when she relented upon seeing a truly astonishing performance-against-type.
7) V4V was a modest hit. $16 million profit on a $56 million picture is cow-feed. There will not likely be any sequels, even if the DVD is a runaway international hit. Hollywood producers are gamblers, and V4VII is a nightmare bet.
8) The critics didn't unanimously agree on it. That said, it hasn't been completely ignored.
9) It's too feel-good to be an Oscar-worthy film, but too dark to be a comedy. It wanders in the middle into some very dark, very political territory. If it had a decent rape scene, a reformed prostitute, or an idiot leading man, it might've had half a chance.
10) It's up against some stiff competition. No one ever said life was fair.
But, it will have a lasting impact to a small group of people. For those who "got" it and appreciated it, it won every award on the list.
FWIW

Re: V for Vendetta receives NO Oscar nominations!!!
Thank you, MelindaKitty for that spot-on analysis. All are true. And if I may add just one more reason:
NOBODY SAW IT. Only one person I know has ever answered "yes" to the question, "Have you seen
'V for Vendetta?'" It could have been "Gone With the Wind" and it wouldn't have been nominated!
Released at a truly weird time of the year, unless you saw the trailer, were a die-hard Wachowski-head or a compulsive moviegoer (or film critic), chances are you probably wouldn't have seen it.
Yes, V4V has all -the earmarks of a "cult film." Maybe others will discover it if it ever makes it to regular cable TV, as the Matrix films have done.

Re: V for Vendetta receives NO Oscar nominations!!!
In a way I'm glad V4V didn't get nominated. Why?
1. The Oscars is nothing more than a 'mutual admiration society' focusing on physical rather than true beauty.
2. The people there are mostly shallow, overpaid morons.
3. You'd think with their speeches they've just cured cancer!
4. Who wants to get an anatomically incorrect statue anyway? I'd rather have V without his bits.
Having V4V in there would be against what V stood for anyway. So

Re: V for Vendetta receives NO Oscar nominations!!!
And the Oscar goes to: Dario Marianelli for "Atonement."
Sighhhhhh...To bad the Academy didn't seriously consider him last year for our favorite film.
