Is a PLANNED attack by USA against IRAN "imminent"?
To the vast disappointment (and disagreement) of American "armchair warrior" nationalists, flag-wavers and Bush-supporters, I'll remind them that the facts contradict their expectations with regard to any "intentional ass-kicking mission" against the non-Arab nation of Iran.
Momentarily putting aside that Iran is still under the support and protection of Russia, as it was during the Iran-Iraq War in which America was backing Iraq and Saddam Hussein -- the losers in that war -- so that any military aggression against Iran now is certain to be answered-in-kind by Russia and its allies, there is also the aspect and prospect that the Muslim nations will choose to side with Iran, which nations include Turkey, along with the Oil-rich Arab neighbors and surrounders of Israel.
Those facts add up to reality that an America/Britain/Israel attack on Iran would be seen for what it is -- a further destabilization of the entire Middle East (and a further disruption in the word's Oil-supplies) -- that would not be acceptable to or tolerated by the rest of the world.
Against that background, there are the facts that active-duty generals and admirals in the U.S. Military have promised to resign rather than follow orders from Bush to attack Iran, that the troops themselves are being encouraged to disobey such orders, and of course that the Pentagon has admitted and warned that our troops are already "spread too thin," and of course that we are still bogged-down in and losing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Therefore, I would bet against the probability that Bush's "saber-rattling" might progress -- even accidentally -- into an all-out war with Iran.

Re: Is a PLANNED attack by USA against IRAN "imminent"?
Joseph,
With the exception of this phrase in this sentence of yours, "Therefore, I WOULD BET against the probability..." (which is merely because I'm not a gambler), I wholly agree with your reasoning and conclusions, and I sincerely doubt that Bush would dare to order an attack against Iran, EVEN IF Israel (or Britain?) should strike the first blow on any pretense, or EVEN IF our Naval presence should lead to the "accident waiting to happen" between our ships and Iran's ships.
Happy Sunday,
Bob

Re: Is a PLANNED attack by USA against IRAN "imminent"?
Well guys,
By now everyone has heard about the "catch and release incident," in which Iran had let the 15 British sailors "off the hook" very shortly after capturing them in the Persian Gulf.
I'll explain now why I'd decided against starting a separate new thread about that topic while it was "hot" in the news, which was because I'd anticipated the final outcome as it were, so I wanted to avoid discussion here of the conflicting and contested details as they unfolded in the news.
In the end, the most important aspect of the story was as I'd "predicted" in the final paragraph of my opening post in this thread, to wit;
--------------------
"Therefore, I would bet against the probability that Bush's "saber-rattling" might progress -- even accidentally -- into an all-out war with Iran."
--------------------
It has become obvious that Bush was highly anticipating a different outcome -- one that would have provided "a justification" for his lying assessment of Iran as "a barbarous nation with evil intents," as he had successfully mis-described Iraq -- in his ultimately dashed hope that Britain would have screamed for a military reaction/retaliation against Iran.
But instead, Bush has caused America to be "left with egg on its face," i.e.; having to "coincidentally" arrange for the unanticipated release of the Iranian diplomat who was kidnapped in Iraq a few months back, and having to "coincidentally" grant sudden permission for Iranian diplomats to meet with the five Iranians kidnapped during a U.S. raid on their office in Irbil in January of this year.
No matter how the Bush Administration "slices and dices" this story for public consumption, the facts cannot be changed, and these facts are that Britain and Iran came out as "the heroes and winners" in the eyes of the world, while Bush and his Zionist advisors came out as "the snakes in the grass who got their tails twisted".

Re: Is a PLANNED attack by USA against IRAN "imminent"?
You were spot on again, Chief.
Bush needs to fully straighten-out the Veterans Care situation, to find ways (even a draft) to greatly increase the size of our active military, and of course to persuade all of the generals and admirals into his way of thinking, before he again attempts to bait Iran into providing a 9/11-type, or Pearl Harbor-type, or Gulf of Tonkin-type "War Cry" that the public would similarly react to.
Until and unless he manages to do all or most of those things first, he cannot and will not reverse the embarrassments of his failed attempt to ensure the defeat of the Hezbollah by Israel and now his failed attempt to use the capture of British troops as an excuse to attack Iran.
It was not only Tony Blair, but also Nancy Pelosi, who have succeeded at showing Bush the errors of his foreign policies, by providing examples of successful diplomacy in place of belligerent "saber-rattling" and refusals to meet and talk with "enemy nations" as so-designated by Israel. Let's just hope and pray that these lessons and examples were not totally "lost" on this president and this congress.
<hand salute>,
Greg

Greg,
I thank you for agreeing with my analysis and assessment, and I'm quick to understand and agree with your expansion of my conclusions.
Since you'd mentioned Nancy Pelosi's trip to Syria, I posted a separate thread about it in this same forum-section, it having other implications worthy of separate consideration. See it at:
