I believe that THE DRAFT will be reinstated SOON!
These are GRAND times for jingoist, nationalist, and/or “Korea/Vietnam Wars-losses-embarrassed” Americans, WHO ARE WITHOUT children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren of their own, to be “cheering-along” the prospect of reinstating the Draft, and for some WITH such bloodlines to be “blithely dismissing” that prospect, as the Bush Administration is UNILATERALLY pressuring and provoking Iran -- that happens to be an important ally and trading-partner of both Russia and China, both of which share with Iran the “dislike” (to put it mildly) of both Israel and ITS ONLY fully-commmitted sponsor and ally, the United States -- which will certainly trigger a third World War SHOULD such pressures and provocations eventually translate into ATTACKS against Iran (either initiated by Israel and joined by America, or vice versa).
As it is now, ONLY ONE OF ALL the decision-makers THROUGHOUT the Executive and Administrative Branches of the United States Government HAS a child or close relative of his own in the Military, which has made it much easier for THE REST of them to remain “personally detached” even while delivering their pre-scripted and rehearsed speeches and sound-bytes with regard to the “bravery, patriotism and self-sacrifices” that are being exhibited by our all-volunteer troops and the families thereof.
Also as it is now, NONE of the children of the rich and powerful HAVE TO emulate Bill Clinton, **** Cheney and George W. Bush, in EVADING a wartime Draft, but have only to NOT VOLUNTEER.
But, reinstating the Draft IS unavoidable and inevitable, since it is now generally accepted that our current troops-levels, along with their overall morale, ARE too low, and that the recruitment efforts ARE failing to meet sufficient quotas DESPITE the greatly-increased financial incentives, WHILE the death and maiming casualties among the troops ARE increasing at an alarming rate ONLY in Iraq and Afghanistan.
So, now is the time for all Americans to be PRIMARILY considering whether or not it has been, or will be, WORTH THE MOTIVATIONS AND THE COSTS for America to remain involved in the Middle-East Wars, at the REAL risk of entering and LOSING a third World War.
